The Council is asking residents to let it know whether or not you want it to consider adding a building onto the Frank Kitts Park.

We think this is a really important question because we don't have much green space in the city.

ICW would like to put in a submission that fairly takes into account your thoughts as inner-city Wellington residents, and/or as people interested in the inner-city.

So we have created a quick form for you to fill in so you can let us know what you think.

We know this might be a bit of a dry subject, so we'll select someone who fills in the form to receive a $50 Unity Books voucher!

What do you think about a Fale being built on Frank Kitts Park - would it be a cultural asset or a lost part of the city’s waterfront green space?

Why think about this?
This is a really important decision for inner-city residents because we don’t live in leafy suburbs with a garden, and berms and pavements at the end of our drive. And we don’t have big nearby public playing fields like many of our outer neighbourhoods. 

Our streets are vertical, not horizontal.

Many of our homes are in the 125+ high rise apartment buildings located in Te Aro/Wellington Central (with more to come). There are already 17,000 of us living here, and double that in the near future.

So land where we live is scarce and there’s no room to build big new parks in our part of town.
 

So what does that mean?

It means that the two public parks we have - Frank Kitts Park and Waitangi Park - are very special and a bit precious (and Frank Kitts Park has already had to allocate future space for the Garden of Beneficence). 

These parks are where inner-city residents take their kids, walk their dogs, sit in the sun and read or think, or kick a ball around and play - they are our parks 24/7 not just where we sit to eat our sandwiches in the middle of our business day before leaving town.

So what do you think?
