Women’s History Month is almost over…

so for the last email of March, I wanted to highlight some women-owned/led ice cream shops in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area. I realized recently that there are quite a few owned by women in the area.

This week’s newsletter also features the latest blog post and a couple of food articles related to the Washington, D.C. Metro Area.

If you love this newsletter, please share it with your friends or on social media. Thank you in advance!

Enjoy.

DMV Ice Cream Shops

Ice Cream Jubilee

Ice Cream Jubilee is an Asian woman-owned ice cream shop known for its unique flavors. Her decision to open an ice cream shop was inspired by ice cream’s connection to happy memories with her family. The classic flavors include Banana Bourbon Caramel, Thai Iced Tea, and Matcha Green Tea. The seasonal flavors are always worth checking out.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is one of my go-to brands. It’s a fan favorite that you might have at your local grocery store if you don’t live near a shop. The recipe created by Jeni Britton, the founder, has been used for 20+ years. Their flavors are inspired by art, history, pop culture, and more.

Nicecream

Nicecream is an ice cream shop known for making ice cream on the spot using liquid nitrogen, which gives you the freshest ice cream. It was founded by Sandra Tran and Gil Welsford, Jr. in 2013. Sandra was no stranger to the kitchen since grew up experimenting in her parents’ kitchen. One day, Sandra was experimenting with a traditional ice cream machine. It takes a lot longer to make it that way, which led Gil to the idea of using liquid nitrogen. It’s so cool to see it the ice cream made in person at the shop. I love that Nicecream uses local ingredients to create its products.

Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream

Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream makes small-batch, all-natural ice cream with local ingredients (when possible). It’s owned by a mother-daughter duo, Sarah and Annie Park. I love that they’re committed to using high-quality ingredients. All products are made in-house in Bethesda, MD.
