Myra Douangdara is the new Operations Manager
With extensive experience in a management position with the Port of Stockton, Myra joins our First Church staff as our new operations manager.  Jim Mishler is helping her to get acclimated as she learns the vast amount of work items that are part of her portfolio.  Jim has been operating pro-tempore in the position for several months while we searched for a new manager.  Myra started work this past Monday and already has a good grasp of the job.  Welcome her this Sunday at coffee hour; she plans to be on hand at the after-church social time to meet you. Or, drop in to say hello any weekday.  Her office hours are 9-1 Mon.-Fri.

Funds collected for Native American Ministries Sunday partner with existing Native American ministries to create beneficial programs

Description automatically generated  A gap in knowledge exists in The United Methodist Church, in congregations and other United Methodist entities, relative to comprehending concepts of Native American life, cultures, languages, spirit, values, contemporary issues, and such. We affirm the sacredness of American Indian people, their languages, cultures, and gifts to the church and the world. Donations support vital ministries and churches in the Native American communities and allow The UMC to partner with existing native ministries to develop new programs on behalf of Native Americans. Some of those efforts include mentoring programs, peer support systems, funding for economic development projects, and restoring traditional and historic ways that bring forth new leaders for Native American communities.

Parking Changes at First Church
You may have noticed this week that new signs have gone up in the large lot which we use, noting that parking is no longer free.  But -  on Sunday mornings it remains free for our use, making it convenient for church attendance.

On the other days and evenings too, however, fees are charged per parking space.  The new owners of the lot, where the apartment building is slated to be built in 2024, are using a mobile phone-centered app to facilitate payment. In the days ahead more information will become available on how to use the app easily.  Watch for updates here. Meanwhile, a transition period will aid in our getting used to the new fee-based parking.

And – street parking around the church is free after 6 PM.

Arriving during the day and confused about how to park? Come into the office and ask for assistance.
2023 Children’s Easter Egg Hunt
The FUMC Sacramento Children’s Program will be having an Easter Egg hunt in our courtyard for the first time in 4 years. We are all excited about being back outside, where the kids can use their ‘outside voices’ and have a much larger area to search. More space=more eggs! Unlike previous years, where we stuck to non-edible items, this year we can actually put candy and treats inside the eggs since they will be hidden outside. (We didn’t want to put candy in the eggs last year, when our hunt was inside the building, in case we lost a few)
We went through 300+ plastic eggs to make sure they fit together correctly, weren’t broken, and were ready to go. So far, we have lots of non-edible, fun things to put inside some of the eggs, like stickers, bouncy balls, bracelets, mini-games, etc. All we need now is more candy to fill the rest.
We are asking for donations of individually wrapped candy/chocolate by April 2nd if you are able. **In the past, we have discovered that lollipops won’t fit, parents aren’t thrilled about gum and mini fruit snacks and fruit roll-ups are always a hit!
Our goal is to have all the kids involved in this event, with the older kids and teens hiding the eggs for the younger ones. We will have a special egg hunt for our nursery-age children as well. We thank you in advance for all you do to support us.
Candy donations can be left in the church office and please write, "Children's Program" on them.
