Dear STEM Ambassadors and Community Partners,

The STEM Ambassador Program is participating in U Giving Day at the University of Utah today, March 29! We are raising money to provide scholarships for graduate students to participate in future STEMAP training cohorts once STEMAP training is no longer covered by our current NSF grant.

Please help us spread the word about our U Giving Day fundraising efforts and consider donating to support our programming here so we are able to continue providing public engagement and science communication training to all students, regardless of PI funding.

Details and Impact
As many of you are aware, the STEM Ambassador Program began at the University of Utah with funding from the National Science Foundation in 2016 with the goal of directly connecting scientists with members of the public to bridge the communication gap between academic and community spaces. Since its founding, STEMAP has trained over 200 researchers in public engagement and science communication. STEM Ambassadors have forged connections with over 70 unique community groups including senior centers, the National Ability Center, Youth-in-Custody, the SLC library system, patient populations, and dozens of local nonprofit organizations. Ambassadors from over 20 departments at the University of Utah have completed the training, and have reported improvements in their ability to communicate the importance of their research to diverse audiences, teaching effectiveness, and confidence in establishing new community relationships. STEM Ambassadors go on to pursue careers in science communication, public engagement, academic research, policy, and more.

We are grateful for your continued support of public engagement with science and STEMAP's work!

Sincerely,

Andrew George
