Prayers and Concerns
Please pause to hold in your heart the prayers and concerns of our beloved community:
  • For safe travels of many in our community who are or will soon be travelling
  • For continued healing, strength, and patience for our beloved community members and their families who are facing health concerns
  • For victims and families of relentless gun violence
  • For those facing "natural" disasters

You are invited to share the circumstances that are touching your heart in recent days. Please contact Bonnie (administrator@koinoniagj.org) or Ellen (director@koinoniagj.org) if you have joys, concerns, and/or prayer requests that you would like to share with the community.

Council Updates
Recently the GJPD visited Koinonia for a safety walk-through and made recommendations for helping us to be as safe as possible. One of those recommendations is that our front doors be locked during services which we are now doing. Council will be addressing some of the other recommendations over the next few months and will keep us posted. Feel free to share your questions with with our council members (David Herr, Craig and Joanna Little, and Sue Polan).

Council is organizing a task team to design a new labyrinth (our previous one was razed due to the need for a new septic tank and leach field). This task team is not responsible to build it but to work on the design and plan for it. Please contact council members if interested.

Council has a vacancy. Please email David Herr at dherr43@gmail.com if you would consider serving Koinonia in this way.

The next Council Meeting is Friday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m.

Lenten Reflections

Weekly Lenten Labyrinth Reflection

Final Week of Lent

To believe that we will live beyond our death is a radical challenge, but a challenge of freedom. That is the rose at the center of the labyrinth.  From the rose in the center, we can join in the Easter Parade.
Centuries before Christ, in ancient China, the Tao Te Ching was written:
Each being in the universe returns to the common source. Returning is the source of serenity.

When we realize where we come from, we naturally become disinterested, amused, kindhearted as a grandmother, dignified as a king.
Immersed in the wonder of the Tao, The Way, we can deal with whatever life brings us..
And when death comes, we are ready.

Jesus, then, gentle-hearted as a grandmother, as dignified as a king, could ride serenely up to his death because he knew he was returning to his Source.  He accepted it with serenity because he knew where he had come from and where he was going.

Action Opportunities
Check out this new section in our newsletter to share opportunities for folks to learn about issues and take action at the local and state level if desired. If you have suggestions for opportunities, please let Ellen or Bonnie know.

Western Colorado Alliance

In connection with Western Colorado Alliance for Community Action please support West Slope Youth Voice students. They have selected HB23-1003 | School Mental Health Assessment as a bill they wish to champion. This bill creates an option for middle and high schools to offer student mental health assessments, just as many schools offer dental and vision health assessments. It would create a system for yearly, voluntary mental health assessments for students in sixth grade up to seniors in high school. These Grassroots Democracy interns feel strongly that this bill will help to close the gap in access and give students the ability to seek the help they need when they need it. They are working hard to pass this bill and plan to return to Denver in April for their second lobby trip to help turn it into law.

Get in touch with Jeriel Clark at jeriel@westerncoloradoalliance.org for more information.

HB23-1042: Protecting Truth and Trust in Youth Interrogations, is in need of our support as it makes its way through the Colorado Senate.

HB23-1042 will ensure that only voluntary statements made during interrogations of youth are admissible in court, and will also require video recordings of all youth interrogations.

Please ask Colorado Senator Janice Rich to vote yes.

The Christian Left has been a haven for Christian progressives and their allies since 2009. They provide a harassment-free zone for like-minded people to gather, enjoy fellowship, discuss daily events, and participate in taking action on behalf of those Jesus called ‘the least of these.’ Click HERE for more information and consider supporting this meaningful organization.

Be sure to check our shared e-Calendar with CSL for upcoming meetings and events by clicking HERE. As you're viewing the calendar, click on an event to see its additional information.
