Welcome to our April 2023 E-NEWS.

We have a packed newsletter for you this month, with an exciting youth employment event for Nambucca Valley employers, service providers and families - Work Pathways for Young People. We also share the latest Employer of Choice articles, fresh off the press, and we're looking for Mid North Coast Circular Economy projects to showcase - read on for more information!

In 2023 RDAMNC is continuing to work across four key themes. These are:

WORKFORCE

Do you employ young people or would you like to?

Do you have staff shortages and want to secure your workforce into the future?

Do you know what kind of support is available to help you employ young people?

Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast and Nambucca Valley High Schools are hosting an event to bring together parents of young people Year 9 and older, service providers who support employers to hire young people, and YOU, local business owners and employers who give our young people jobs.

The transition from school to work can sometimes be a tricky time, so we need all hands on deck to make it easier for everyone – after all, it takes a village to (employ) a child! We think helping our young people to find meaningful work with local employers is good for our local economy, good for our community, and most of all, good for our kids, so let’s get together and make a difference.

Join us at Work Pathways for Young People in the Nambucca Valley on 27th April from 5:00-8pm. Light refreshments will be available. Entry is free.

HOUSING

Housing affordability is still a vexed matter causing concern and hardship across the Mid North Coast and beyond. Housing was discussed during the NSW election campaign, and it is clear that housing will be a priority for the newly elected Labor Government. The housing policies Labor took to the election were:
  • mandatory requirement for 30 per cent of all homes on surplus government land to be set aside for social, affordable and universal housing
  • deliver more affordable rental housing in regional areas
  • allow rental bonds to be transferred directly to another property reducing the financial burden of renting
  • make it easier to have pets in rental properties
  • removing no grounds evictions
  • Creation of a Rental Commissioner to be an “advocate and voice for renters”
  • Create Homes NSW to bring social housing construction, maintenance and tenant management under the same roof.

Meanwhile, if you have a spare bedroom, have you thought about renting it out? House sharing is not only for the young - people of all ages can benefit from extra company, help around the house and assistance paying the mortgage. Flatmates.com.au have a great range of resources to help you share your house safely on their website, including: Watch our short film to get inspired about local people who are sharing their spaces!

Mid North Coast Internet Services and Providers

How is your internet reception? Do you know where to get good advice on your internet? What is the best type of internet for you and what is Starlink, anyway? We've answered all these questions and more in our informative article on Mid North Coast Internet Service and Providers.

Circular Economy

We're putting together some case studies for Mid North Coast Circular Economy projects - think sustainability, recycling, reusing, repurposing, upcycling - anything that directs waste away from landfill and closes the gaps in the waste cycle, whether it is in design, production, distribution, consumption, collection or recycling. Send us an email at media@rdamnc.org.au if you you know of a project and would love to see it featured in our newsletter and on our socials!

Keep an eye on our LinkedIn and Facebook pages for information about programs, grants and other supports for business, not-for-profits and community organisations!

Signing off for now,
The RDAMNC Team
