A concerning statement, I have heard from people who travel to a India to learn yoga (or what they think is yoga) is that Indians don’t practice yoga. As if a tradition that has lasted thousands of years needed colonization to survive. Colonization actually has the opposite effect. It distorts and breaks down systems but that is for another post.
It survived because it was an integrated part of the culture. Something to be lived and not just performed on a rectangular mat a few hours a day.
One of my teachers used to say, reducing yoga to asanas is like using a jet like a car. If the road is wide enough, it might work but that is not what the jet is made for.
The magic happens when it takes flight.
Yoga has wings. It goes way further than a rubber mat.🕉️
