Forno Antico

It's date night... and your delightfully pregnant significant other has a hankering for good pasta and Italian cuisine... well, look no further than Forno Antico in the borough of Collegeville!

Forno Antico was first created in Napoli, Italy in 1979, and has been a family business ever since. From as far back as he could remember, Ciro Nuzzolese wanted to own his own restaurant and bring authentic traditional Italian food to America. Following in his grandfather's footsteps, he began pursuing that dream. In his early childhood, Ciro and his grandfather would always cook together, whipping up mouth watering ingredients for their family, whether it be for a holiday or just a lazy Sunday. After moving to America, Ciro's dream came true, and he had the opportunity to continue on his family business that began decades ago in Italy! At Forno Antico they pride themselves on staying true to tradition and creating authentic Italian food and Neapolitan Pizza. With their handmade wood burning oven and ingredients imported straight from Italy they are able to do just that! They use fresh Mozzerella di Bufala made for them each week in a small town in Campania, Italy, and San Marzano tomatoes that are flown in fresh from the Campania region as well, and their double zero flour and sea salt is imported from Napoli, all complimenting and adding to the taste and authenticity of the dishes that fill their menu.

Speaking of their menu, it's to die for... Our server brought out a basket of fresh warm bread with olive oil as we perused the menu to make our selections. We started with an order of the fried calamari (which were delicious and cooked to perfection) as an appetizer which got us off on the right food. For entrees I chose the Veal Capri (pictured above), which was veal medallions served with prosciutto, eggplant, and mozzarella cheese in a pink sauce, and Jess opted for the Penne Vodka, with chopped sun-dried tomatoes, onions, prosciutto, fresh garlic, herbs, a splash of vodka, cream butter, and a dash of homemade sauces, served over penne pasta. Both were delicious, and very healthy portion sizes. The veal was tender, both sauces had tremendous flavor, and the pasta was cooked 'al dente' exactly as we both prefer. We've had their pizza before, but not on this evening. If you want an authentic and flavorful brick oven pie, you've got to give them a try.

The establishment is BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorites to accompany your meal! Next time you're in the Collegeville/Trappe/Upper Providence area, be sure to stop in an pay them a visit... We don't think there's a chance you'll leave there disappointed.

"The Art of Choke"

This modern classic was first created by bartender Kyle Davidson at The Violet Hour in Chicago in 2008. Victor from @in_time_for_cocktails says, "The split base of white rum and Cynar (an Amaro made from artichokes) blend amazingly in this spirit forward aperitif. Muddled mint, a touch of rich Demerara syrup, lime, and a quarter ounce of green chartreuse round it out nicely." Grab what you need and give this one a try for yourself!

- 1 oz white rum @probitasrum
- 1 oz @cynarusa
- 0.25 oz green chartreuse
- 3/4 tsp rich demarara syrup (2:1 ratio)
- 3/4 tsp fresh lime juice
- 6 mint leaves

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, including the mint leaves. Muddle the mint leaves (crushing but not tearing them) enough to start releasing the oils within. Add ice and stir well until chilled. Double strain into a tumbler with ice and garnish with an aggressively big bunch of mint... ENJOY!
