Seaside Cruizers 30th Anniversary Father’s Day Weekend!

March Newsletter - Issue #3 – 2023

A Message From The President!

We are very surprised with the response to our 30th Anniversary, Father’s Day Show ‘N Shine from those registering and those wanting to participate as vendors, both food and other. All food vendor spots have been filled and regretfully, we have had to turn some away.

We now have 455 of the available 625 spots filled which leaves only 170 spots. The poker run is also filling up with only 28 of the 150 spots available. While we still have about 5 weeks remaining before registrations close, we will be unable to add others on an exception basis as we did last year. Those spots came available due to the number of cancellations we had. There have been no cancellations so far this year. To be assured a spot, l would suggest you get registered sooner rather than later online at: https://seasidecruizers.com/show/registration/.

Don’t forget to select our Limited Edition, 30th Anniversary T-shirts at the discounted price of $25.00. Check out the other merchandise you can purchase at a discounted price when registering.

We anticipate a full show and are looking forward to hosting all of you in June in the beautiful communities of Qualicum Beach and Parksville.

Take care and stay healthy!

Oceanside Hospice Society has been in existence for over 25 years; our society continues to strive to expand its programs and offerings to benefit the residents of Oceanside. Our mission is to provide compassionate care to individuals and their families who are facing advanced illness, death and bereavement. Our society is non-profit and therefore, we do rely on donations and fundraising initiatives for 71% of our operating costs. The society does not charge for any services which include the following:

  • Equipment Loan Program

  • One to One Client Support Services through registered counsellors

  • One to One Grief Support through registered counsellors

  • Grief Support Groups

  • Grief Walking Groups

  • Caregiver Respite and Companioning

  • Palliative Vigil Team

  • Holistic Self-Care

  • Lending Library

Also, we provide links in the continuum of care by supporting caregiving at home, in hospital, Hospice at Trillium and community care facilities throughout our community.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Seaside Cruizers and its members for all the past support that you have provided us, as, without the assistance of community-minded groups such as yours, we simply would not be able to serve those in our community who require and need our services.

To touch the lives of so many is a beautiful gift; and so on behalf of myself, our staff, our clients, the volunteer Board of Directors and the army of volunteers that support our cause, we would like to thank you for your continued support! The funds you have provided us are genuinely and sincerely appreciated.

With gratitude,

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!

The Seaside Cruizers Father's Day weekend succeeds because of the dedication of our membership, volunteers from local organizations, local businesses, participants and the general public. As a non-profit Society the Seaside Cruizers Car Club donates all the the surplus revenues back to community groups and charities. Last year with everyone’s support the SEASIDE CRUIZERS was able to provide funds to 19 benefactors totaling in excess of $27,000.00. A volunteer's time is priceless to our success. Here are a few of them.

Seaside Cruizers’ Member’s Ride

Owner: Dick Glassford

When I first saw the 1968 Firebird in 1999, I was not impressed! It had been sitting for 5 years, covered in dust, missing the beauty rings, carpets worn out and most importantly, I was not happy with the color. A friend of mine who came with me to look at the car said the frame was solid, the car was complete, and the original color was rare. I ended up purchasing the car and the first thing I did was contact PHS (Pontiac Historic Society). I wanted to see if it really was as original as advertised, and to discuss a color change. When I suggested I would likely change the color to Verdero Green and leave the April Gold interior as is, PHS told me NOT to do it. They told me April Gold was not a common color, and with the matching interior and all the factory options, it was truly a rare build.

The options included: Original 350 HO Package with 4-barrel producing 320 HP. It came with the with 2-speed transmission and full console. In addition, it had power front disc brakes, power steering, power windows and power roof. It came with Rally II wheels, red line tires, tinted windows, and deluxe interior.

So, I now I owned a well optioned and rare car. But it was in dire need of some body work, a new paint job, new roof, and both carpet and upholstery kits. I took it to Pro-Craft Restorations in Duncan for a complete makeover. I also became a regular customer of Classic Industries and was able to obtain all the parts needed for the rebuild. It took several years, but the result was a lovely Firebird in showroom condition.

The only modification from stock that I have done is put in an 200R4 transmission. This has made all the difference to the performance of the car. The old 2-speeds were indestructible but did nothing for the 320 HP! Now the horses can jump off the line and give the car a whole new ride! The car is fun to drive and looks pretty good as well.
