Sunday School
Everyone is welcome at our Sunday School regardless of age.
We begin the service in the main worship space and then depart to the Annex following the Time For All Ages.
This week, with the ACM taking place, there will be a supervised nursery for the youngest and a movie (with popcorn and juice) for the older children.
Annual General Meeting - Sunday, March 26
The St. John's United Church Annual General Meeting will be held immediately following our
shortened worship service on Sunday, March 26. This meeting will be both in-person and
on Zoom. Further documents and instructions will be sent out via email prior to the meeting.
In preparation for the annual congregational meeting, we have arranged child care so that
parents with children can stay for the meeting. We hope that everyone who is able to stay
will take comfort in knowing that there is programming for the younger children in the annex
until the meeting concludes. Special thanks to Ria, Aubrey and Brooke, for stepping into this
role.
Click this LINK for a copy of the 2022 Annual Report. Please contact Connie at
the church office if you require a hard copy.
There will be a brief luncheon between the worship service and Annual Meeting for those
attending in-person.
Sabbatical Announcement
On January 19, 2023, the Official Board formally approved a request from Rev Hubert with respect to a three-month sabbatical. Under the United Church of Canada policy, Ministers are eligible for a sabbatical after five years of continuous service with one congregation, which for Hubert will be in September, 2023. The request was made informally to Ministry and Personnel and then by written application in September 2022, with a view to preserving the timeline for the start of his five years with us.
The dates for Hubert's absence will commence with his Continuing Education Leave and Vacation Leave on July 20, 2023 and run until November 28, 2023, when he returns from sabbatical.
Because this decision was made without any awareness of the changes that would be occurring with respect to our Team Ministry, we felt that we could be conservative in our approach to replacing Hubert during his leave. Following the notice that Annika Sangster would be leaving our congregation, we have had to revisit this approach. We will start the search for an Appointment, or temporary minister, who will lead the congregation for most of the period when Hubert is away. We will be updating the congregation as that search continues and as the details for our summer worship schedule take shape.
Please rest assured that the Official Board and the other committees within St. John's congregation are working hard to ensure that this leave results in the rejuvenation that is intended by the Pastoral Relations policy around sabbatical leave.
