The COMMUNITY CAMPFIRE on March 25th was our biggest ever! There were smiles all around. Thanks for coming out!
By the numbers: almost 100 residents attended and connected around our 4 fire pits. 140 hotdogs, 108 cups of hot chocolate, 29 cups of lemonade, and about 300 large marshmallows as well as, lots and lots of small marshmallows were consumed. Wow!
Let’s do it again on April 29th - 5 to 7 PM at the park on Evergreen Circle SW. Watch for updates on our Facebook page.

GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS – CHRISTINA PICKLES
|
Meet Christina Pickles of Get Outside and Play, an organization that loves to play, especially outside!
Christina has been delivering a loose parts play program in the Shawnee Evergreen community for several years. She arrives with a van full of random materials and transforms a boring greenspace into an Adventure Playground! Loose parts provide opportunities for open-ended, imaginative, and collaborative play where children take the lead, as they explore and construct with boards, tires, boxes, pots, fabrics, ropes, spools and anything she can think of that may spark curiosity and wonder in children. Children learn through direct, hands-on experiences. Best of all, loose parts level the experience for children of varying abilities and different ages.

Her goal is to bring back active outdoor play as it is an essential aspect of childhood development that builds mental and physical resilience. She advocates for outdoor play in childcare settings, schools, and communities where she has been connecting people of all ages to the natural world for over 25 years among the forests, streams, badlands, and streets. She focuses on outdoor play as the best way for children (and adults) to learn about the land, themselves, and each other
She supports early childhood educators, teachers, and other adults to build their knowledge and confidence in taking the children they work with outside more often. Her webinars and workshops attract educators and parents from across Canada, and internationally. In April she is hosting a full-day conference in Calgary. See her website for more details if you wish to attend.
TimberNook of Greater Calgary is her regular work. She deliverins outdoor play programs for children from 18 months to 10 years of age. They build, they experiment, they laugh, they fight, they learn, and they grow. Her role there is to stand back and let the children explore and develop confidence in their own problem-solving abilities.
For the program in Shawnee Evergreen, the most important ingredient for these events is you and your children, so join in on April 16 from 1 pm-3 pm to see the eclectic collection of pieces that Chrstina brings this time. It’s a great way to meet like-minded families from your neighbourhood. Drop in – no registration is required. Learn more at Get Outside and Play.
