Experience Tea as a Relationship

Happy Spring, tea friends!

This weekend is our class on what I'm calling "tea ergonomics" - exploring the way we use our body, move, and hold objects in our tea space. As with many areas of noticing and nuance that we explore here at Being Tea, this is a topic that I really wish I had access to in my early tea years. It was well over 5 years into my time working with tea (and coffee) before I received any training in body mechanics, and 10 years after that, I did the deep dive with yoga teacher training. In this way, I think tea and yoga have a great deal in common, in that their physical aspects should be something that helps us feel grace, acceptance, and ease.

This session will focus on understanding that part more deeply, emphasizing how we understand the function of a movement or posture over the form (aesthetics). And I'll be taking your specific questions about awkwardness and pain points in your practice, too!

** If you currently have, or previously had, physical accommodation needs and have questions about how to modify something that causes discomfort, please let me know! Especially if you can't join us live, because I would love to include your question in our session to make sure it gets answered.

RSVP to join us live this Saturday!

CLASS LINK - SPRING EQUINOX MEDITATION
{ Quiet Tea Sundays library }

Enjoy this special edition Quiet Tea Sundays practice to honor the spring equinox! We pair guided journaling with a contemplative gongfu tea practice that takes you through all four seasons, reflecting on the patterns we notice within ourselves throughout the year. Includes a reading from Thich Nhat Hanh's "The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching."

Quiet Tea Sundays is on Spring Break!

We return with our next series on Sunday, April 9.

Best of Quiet Tea Sundays: "Origin Stories - May 9"
While we're on break, I invite you to enjoy this "Best of Quiet Tea Sundays" session, from our spring series titled "Origin Stories" (May 2021). Exploring who we are, where we’ve been, where we want to go, through the lens of our tea. Extending ourselves the grace to write and even rewrite our own origin stories, in a way that honors how we understand our own experience in the present moment. It's a supportive series for reaffirming our commitment to personal path and practice amidst the renewal and beauty of spring.
In the first session from this series, May 9, we consider our origin story with tea. How do we feel and remember where we began with tea? What does it mean to begin and how does that show up for who we are today?
Ahead of our April calendar next week, I wanted to share a little Spring Preview of some special happenings coming this season.

- Being Tea Birthday celebration!  |  Sunday, April 30, 12pm CDT
Join us for a gathering to celebrate the awesome folks in our space and the 5th birthday of the Being Tea community. I'll offer a guided tea meditation for the group, followed by shared stories from members. We'll also include space for a little Q&A; I'll be taking your questions about the story of this program, and share a behind the scenes / chaos peek of how it comes together each year.

- Intro to Professional Cupping  |  Saturday, May 13, 12-2pm CDT
Expanded two-hour exploration! Complementing our Welcome to Tea class that happened in February, this May we're jumping into one of my favorite tea subjects to teach – professional cupping (tea tasting) – with an all-new expanded beginner's course. This class works best when using tea cupping sets (photo above), or similar size plain white gaiwans, which I can provide links for you to find some ahead of time, too.

Being Tea's first 5 years: Memory time!

Summer of our first year of programming (2018). Our internet went out, right in the middle of a live class, with cold brew tea I spent a full day prepping. I had no back-up recording otherwise, or software to pivot to for salvaging the live session. This situation is mercifully rare now, but when you're new to online production, figuring out what to do is sure not fun.
