Message from the Fire Chief: Hydrant Flow Testing Begins in Spring

The Fire Department will be conducting fire hydrant flow testing beginning this spring. This process is designed to measure the amount of water pressure in the Village’s fire hydrants. This process ensures that firefighters have access to properly functioning hydrants in the event of a fire. In order to allow the Fire Department to complete the testing as quickly as possible, please ensure that there is adequate street space around fire hydrants.

Flow testing is typically conducted on weekdays during the day. During the test, water to homes and buildings may become temporarily discolored. This is normal part of the process, and any discoloration is safe and temporary.

While the Department attempts to complete testing for as many hydrants as possible during the spring, it typically becomes necessary to continue the process throughout the summer and into fall due to calls and other department obligations.

If you have any questions, please call the Fire Department at 847-501-6029.
