Course Descriptions:
Scale Up Your Hygiene: Instrument Solutions You Didn't Know You Needed! (3 CEU)
This course examines best practices for dental hygiene armamentarium maintenance and care, presents realistic methods for compliance and provides visual resources for consideration of methodologies. Attendees will explore lesser-known categories of handscalers, various instrument adaptations for clarity on proper clinical use, and best scaler selection for specific clinical challenges. A review of the balance of ultrasonics and hand scaler use and the appropriate clinical indications for each is also included. Attendees will be able to advocate their armamentarium needs with practice decision-makers with full confidence to adapt and maintain it.
Introduction to Airway: Why Sleep Matters (2 CEU)
The average human sleeps a third of their lives. Sleep is as important as nutrition, and exercise. But why don’t we make it a priority? Why does society make it okay to skip sleep or to prioritize everything oversleep? A recent study shows that lack of sleep could be even more damaging than smoking to your health. It reduces your cognitive function, your immune response, and increases the risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Dentists and dental hygienists have the opportunity to screen, otherwise healthy patients, for airway and sleep issues making a greater impact on the overall quality of their life. In this course you will learn the basics of sleep, orofacial myofunctional therapy and how you can help your patients by screening for airway issues.

Michelle MacLean is a clinical hygienist, speaker, CE developer, and an advocate for advancements in workplace health and patient care. She has developed visual references for patient education, AAP-compliant practice, and armamentarium customization. She collaborates with manufacturers to develop and test emerging clinical products that streamline and simplify patient care.

Renata Nehme, RDH, BSDH, MOH
Renata earned her dental hygiene degree at Armstrong Atlantic State University She later received her BSDH from Georgia Highlands University graduating at the top of her class.
She has worked in both pediatric and general dentistry since graduation and has devoted the last 6 years to learning orofacial myofunctional therapy. Renata is originally from Brazil, the leader of myofunctional therapy research in the world. She started by taking courses from Universities in Brazil, then furthering her education in the United States. Today she operates Myo Moves in Savannah, Georgia.
Eager to help raise awareness of Myofunctional Disorders, in 2021 she founded Airway Circle with the intention of creating a collaborative and multidisciplinary group of like-minded health professionals who share the same passion for learning and giving in the dental health and airway space.
