The Season of Lent
From the Vestry

At the Vestry meeting on Sunday
AM, the Vestry approved
this letter
to Bishop Marc,
and approved the 2023 Budget.

Thank you so much to the Vestry for their discernment, prayer and hard work to lead St. Alban's into a bright future.
Dear St. Alban's:

Last year during Lent, we read and discussed several of Kathryne Ann Kinsey's essays that she wrote from 2000 – 2003 when she attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines, North Carolina. We'd like to do something similar this year by sharing an essay each week as a meditation and invitation to a holy Lent.

SOME THOUGHTS

By Kathryne Ann Kinsey

What was your Resurrection story this year?

We have all just completed our Easter journey at Emmanuel Church.  It is certainly a journey as we go through the thoughtful time of Lent, rejoice the joyful ride of Jesus into Jerusalem, and then experience his Passion, all on the same Sunday.  Then come the days before Easter as we inevitably travel to the Cross.  Each of us has his/her own special times during these forty days.  I dare say, if asked, we could find as many experiences during these times as there are communicants.

The Bible Reading Group has been meeting for over two years to read whole books of the Bible.  There is some discussion, but mainly we read the whole text out loud.  We are in the middle of Matthew’s Gospel, but we have read the Gospels of Mark and Luke, the Acts of the Apostles, a number of Paul’s letters, the Book of Genesis, Job, Jonah, and the apocryphal Book of Judith.  People like it!  Feel free to drop in.  If you'd like to get on the email list, contact Larry at Lawrence.DiCostanzo@gmail.com.

The readings are also recorded so you can check them out on our YouTube Channel.

From the DioCal Health & Wellness Team

The guidelines issued on November 30 are still valid and in effect.

However, since the Thanksgiving holiday, there has been a marked increase in COVID and RSV cases. A more telling indicator is that hospitalizations are peaking/surging. This trend is expected to continue through the coming Christmas/New Year's celebrations.

That being said, we are leaving it up to the discretion of each congregation's clergy in charge and their vestries/bishop's committees to decide whether to insist on more stringent measures of masking, social distancing, and contact tracing.

We ask churches to let parishioners and visitors know that
  1. Masking is strongly encouraged as an individual choice. This protects the individual from catching a virus AND it insures that the individual won't be the cause of spreading any viruses.
  2. Being up-to-date on one's vaccination status regarding COVID and pneumonia shots is always a prudent health practice, whether in church or elsewhere.
  3. Using a hand-sanitizer when entering church is strongly encouraged.
  4. Keeping the church as well-ventilated as possible when people are gathered for worship or other indoor activities.
