Based on City of Frisco weather station data, no watering is recommended this week.

Time of day watering guidelines apply now that it's Daylight Savings Time (DST).
Irrigation controllers should be adjusted for the time change. Do not set controllers to run between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Running your sprinklers in the early morning and evening helps minimize water loss due to evaporation.

Birds are chirping, trees are budding, and the spring season has officially arrived. As we begin the transition into our region’s growing season, continue making WaterWise decisions as you resume your lawn and garden routine. Here are a few of our favorite tips:
  • Water with the weather. Save money and conserve water by watering only when necessary. To take the guesswork out of watering, Frisco’s weekly watering recommendations use weather station data to provide easy-to-understand recommendations you can use to set your controller
  • Apply compost for long-term soil health. If you must use fertilizer, use it sparingly! Many types of synthetic fertilizer wash away during watering and rain events. That means harmful chemicals are washing down the storm drain and into our creeks and streams.
  • Adjust your mower blades. When mowing, avoid removing more than one-third the length of the blade per cutting. Leave your cuttings in place to break down naturally into the soil; your grass will thank you!
  • Schedule a FREE Sprinkler Checkup. Ensure your sprinkler system is working efficiently by using the myFRISCO app or calling 972-292-5800 to schedule a free sprinkler system check-up. In 2023, residents with an odd number street address can also schedule a free sprinkler system check-up, (Those with an even number address can request check ups in 2024).

The North Texas Municipal Water District's (NTMWD) annual water distribution system maintenance is underway and will continue through April 3. The annual, routine change in disinfectant is necessary to maintain the regional system and high water quality year round. During the 28-day period, consumers who are sensitive to taste and odor changes in drinking water might notice a palatability change. This change does not alter the quality of the drinking water. The NTMWD has conducted the annual maintenance for over 10 years. The City of Frisco’s water system has a Superior Rating with the TCEQ and exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards.

You've got questions and our Licensed Irrigators have answers.

This week's question:

I just had new sod installed and I was told to water it for 3 days a week for several weeks. How do I do that without getting a ticket?

Answer:
If you have had new plantings or turf installed, you may request a Watering Exemption from the City. The exemption is valid for only the zone(s) affected by new turf or landscaping, for up to 30 days. At the end of the exemption, you will be scheduled a Free Sprinkler Checkup to ensure your controller has been reset to the correct water day, start times and run times. To request an exemption, just down load the myFRISCO app on either Play Store or the App store.
