Please register to join us on April 18, 2023 for the Annual General Meeting of the membership of Banff & Lake Louise Tourism. At the meeting, the Board Chair will share highlights from the 2022 Annual Report and the President & CEO will provide an update on 2023. The meeting will be followed by a cocktail reception to celebrate the 10-Year Vision for Tourism in Banff and Lake Louise, which community members are also invited to attend.

Prepare to welcome Mountain Travel Symposium delegates
We are proud to be the host destination for Mountain Travel Symposium March 26-31. Trade buyers, ski clubs and ski councils will experience all we have to offer first-hand, helping to secure leads and future group business. More than 800 delegates will  reconnect with industry colleagues and expand their networks. Multiple accommodations, attractions, activity providers, restaurants and bars are hosting delegates. Many more member businesses will welcome them as they experience the destination during their free time - shopping, finding spots to eat, recharging, and learning more about our mountain culture.

Immersive Marketplace sustains year-round demand 
We hosted the inaugural Immersive Marketplace tradeshow February 4-11. The new, innovative event showcased Banff and Lake Louise to 36 key buyers from high priority markets, representing approximately 180,000 room nights and $60 million in annual revenue. Society of American Travel Writers to share their experience
Travel writers from across the country came to Banff and Lake Louise for the Society of American Travel Writers Canadian Chapter annual conference March 14-17. We showcased more than 20 members for the delegates, who experienced adventure, wellness, and culinary offerings. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback and look forward to sharing future media coverage.

Summer Campaign toolkit
We have launched our summer marketing campaign to entice international and US travelers to choose Banff and Lake Louise as their preferred destination this summer. Ambassador Program supports your onboarding processes
As you plan to onboard and train your teams for the approaching peak period, access the Banff & Lake Louise Ambassador Program, designed to help new front-line staff discover more about the destination and community. The program is a free resource for member businesses, helping to equip new staff with knowledge to confidently interact and share information with visitors and each other. Arrange a private session for your team or encourage destination newcomers to attend a public session. By participating in the one hour program, your staff are eligible to receive the Ambassador Pass, loaded with experiences, attractions, transportation and food & beverage offers valued at over $1,400. Schedule a session and learn more here
 


Workshops

DEI Training for Organizational Leaders 101
In partnership with the Banff & Lake Louise Hospitality Association, we are pleased to offer this Diversity, Equity and Inclusion course, facilitated by Bow Valley DEI. Customized for organizational leaders, it will focus on the respectful inclusion of both employees and patrons. You will start with a discussion on unconscious bias, privilege, and intersectionality. Next you will move into exercises about leadership style, culture creation and integration of the Bow Valley Pride Network Nine Steps. The session is ideal for any leader looking to support the advancement of 2SLGBTQ+ equity and inclusion practices for guests and colleagues within your organization.

Reminder: Free training to innovate for a sustainable future 
The Tourism Industry Association of Canada, the national voice and champion of the industry, is offering sustainability training, workshops and support. Our industry was one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. With support of the Government of Canada through the Tourism Relief Fund, these free programs help to equip businesses in our industry with the tools and resources needed to innovate for a sustainable future and long-term economic growth. Space is limited. Learn more and register here.

Made With Love Food and Cocktail Festival

Local and Industry News

Moraine Lake Road - information for commercial transportation operators
Moraine Lake Road is now closed to personal vehicles year-round. Commercial vans, buses and taxis meeting licensing requirements will be permitted access from June to mid-October. Operators will be required to obtain a business license add-on that indicates they have been approved for travel on Moraine Lake Road. This will include a unique decal issued to each commercial vehicle. Find out more about the requirements for commercial operators, and designated parking areas.

Tourism expenditure forecast predicts an early recovery
Travel Alberta has shared some good news about the industry’s recovery from the pandemic. According to the latest Tourism Economics baseline forecast, Alberta’s tourism expenditures are expected to return to $10 billion in 2023, a year earlier than previously forecast. Learn more

Engagement sessions on future use of Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

We contributed during Parks Canada's stakeholder engagement sessions to help inform Visitor Use Management plans for Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Participants were asked to provide future-focused feedback on desired conditions for the two areas in terms of the natural and built environments, visitor experience, transportation and more. Parks Canada will hold public discussions in the coming months and we will share these opportunities as they become available.

Banff Community Plan input and engagement
Banff & Lake Louise Tourism presented to the Steering Committee for the Town of Banff Community Plan last week. President & CEO Leslie Bruce spoke about Lead Tourism For Good, the 10-Year Vision for Tourism in Banff and Lake Louise, which was informed by  contributions from more than 2,000 members of our community. We will share opportunities and dates to provide input into the Banff Community Plan as they become available.
