SNAPSHOT

During March, FEiA shared several inspiring stories as part of International Women’s Day; there are links below, make sure you check them out. We also celebrated the graduation of PNG’s second Frontline One Health FETP cohort, this time from West Sepik. Significant progress was made developing the 5-day competency based Rapid Response Team training curriculum; this is the 3rd phase of a 5 part program to strengthen RRT capacity across PNG. The first 5-day RRT training kicks off in April! We also met with key partners from across the region as the team plans for a new phase of FEiA.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • PNG Frontline FETP Workshop 3 - the first cohort of Frontline FETP fellows graduated from West Sepik (pictured above). It was an amazing workshop, bringing together professionals from the animal, environmental and health sectors. Almost all of the trainers and mentors for the Frontline FETP are graduates of the intermediate and advanced FETP in PNG. We’ll be providing more details on the Frontline experiences from West New Britain and West Sepik Frontline programs in upcoming correspondence - stay tuned.

  • The Papua New Guinea Rapid Response Team (RRT) program training team is preparing for a busy schedule of training from April with plans to cover the remaining provinces (8) for initiation training (phase 1) and 15 provinces for after-training-reviews (phase 2) by the end of the year.

The development of phase 3 of the RRT program curriculum - due to pilot as a five day course involving both technical and scenario-based training in the National Capital District in May - is progressing well. One of our FEiA epidemiologists met with partners in the World Health Organization (Geneva) last week, to discuss the phase 3 curriculum and future phases of the PNG RRT program including any collaboration potential between the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) of WHO and FEiA.
