Principal's Message
Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,
Students and staff enjoyed their final Spirit Day last Friday in celebration of March is Reading Month and this week we learn the winners of the building and international March Book Madness competition! We are down to the final two picture books: My Pet Feet and That’s Not My Name in the international bracket. During lunch on Wednesday, students will learn if the book they voted for is the winner in this year’s March Book Madness. Thank you to the EGR Schools Foundation for supporting this experience for our students!
This week is our final week before Spring Break. As a reminder, there is no school this Friday, March 31. I hope that you enjoy some fun and relaxation with loved ones next week. We look forward to resuming school on Monday, April 11.
First Lego League (FLL) Sign-Up for the 2023-2024 School Year
EGRPS is excited to announce the continuation of First Lego League (FLL) at each of the three elementary buildings during the 2023-2024 school year. This promotional video will be shown this week for students to learn more about the club. Registration for current EGRPS students entering grades 1-5 next year is now open and ends on April 30 at 3:00 p.m. Please complete this form to enroll your interested child(ren) on a First Lego League team for the 2023-2024 season. Please note that students enrolling should be entering grades 1-5 in EGRPS next year. To ensure that the season can get underway on time, any requests to enroll after April 30 will be added to a waitlist.
FLL is made possible by parent/guardian volunteers who serve as co-coaches and help with practice. In order to make this school-sponsored, extracurricular offering possible, there must be two co-coaches per team and parents must commit to attending practices. If you are interested in assisting with FLL, please indicate so on the Google Form. A technical background is not needed and training will be provided in early August for all parent coaches. If you have any questions, please contact hgoulet@egrps.org.
Running Club
The sun is shining, the sidewalks are ice free, and that means it's time for Running Club! Running Club is kicking off on Tuesday, April 18, and we're looking for volunteers! We'll need adults to punch lap cards as the kids zoom around the building during afternoon recesses on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Here is the Sign-Up Genius link with more information and to sign up for the days and times that you are available to help. At the end of the season, runners will have an opportunity to sign up and participate in our annual LBW Race at the high school. This is a race where all three elementary schools come together for an evening of running. The LBW Race will be held on Monday, May 22 from 4:30-6:00 p.m.
PTO Wizard Walk on May 11, 2023
Spring has officially arrived and with it comes some of our favorite school community events including the PTO Wizard Walk! This year, the Walk and Family Fun Night will occur on Thursday, May 11. That afternoon, students in all grades will walk in a rainbow of colors through Gaslight Village to raise funds for the Wealthy Elementary PTO and its programs for the next school year. More information and student packets will be coming home the week after Spring Break, but the PTO wanted to share a NEW opportunity with families in advance. This year, families will have the option to purchase personalized yard signs that will be posted on the playground and along the Wizard Walk route. These signs can be customized with words of encouragement for your child(ren), a class as a whole, or donated by you! The signs are then a keepsake you may take home after the Wizard Walk. More information is included in the Google Form linked here. Signs are $15 each and must be requested via the Google Form by Wednesday, April 19.
Wealthy Elementary Playground Information
As many of you know, the passing of the November 2022 parks millage results in the exciting news that the three elementary school playgrounds in East Grand Rapids will be completely renovated in 2023. Since the vote, tremendous amounts of collaborative planning has taken place between the school district, the city of East Grand Rapids, and the EGR Parks and Recreation Department. The result of these efforts is a beautiful new playground project that will break ground very soon. Please see this communication from Dr. Kattula regarding the Playground Improvements and view the Wealthy Elementary Equipment and Site Plan. Construction at Wealthy Elementary is intended to begin at the start of summer break and more specific information will be send to families on Thursday, June 1.
Fence Closing
In order to support a student safety need, the stairwell on the lower elementary playground to Lake Drive will be temporarily closed. Thank you for your patience and support.
