Welcome to the CucCAP Chronicle

The CucCAP project is developing genomic resources to increase disease resistance in cucurbit crops for the cucurbit community. The CucCAP website provides news about CucCAP grant activity, cucurbit diseases, and cucurbit crop production to a broad audience including crop producers, plant pathologists, plant breeders, plant genome scientists, and vegetable extension specialists.

CucCAP Featured Article

Downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis causes severe losses in commercial cucurbit crops. Chemical control is hampered by emergence of pathogen resistance to several fungicides. Genetic analyses by the Quesada laboratory at NC State found that different clades of P. cubensis vary for the predominant mutations conferring resistance. These findings of clade-specific resistances can facilitate the design of more effective fungicide programs tailored to crop and region.
