Island Folklore organizes Taiwan's folklore into nine overlapping categories: folktales, history, legends, myths, traditions, and the groups based on ethnic and linguistic origin/influence — Sinitic (Han Chinese), Austronesian (indigenous Taiwanese), Japonic and Indo-European.

Below, we share an article that takes introduces each of these categories. Also featured is a timeline of Taiwanese history — a brief chronicle of major event's in Taiwan's past!

Welcoming the summer season, we're also sharing some stories from our archives that celebrate Taiwanese summer folk triditions!
