Parents asked to take needs assessment survey

All parents are asked to take a survey (less than 5 minutes) as part of the grant requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The survey asks questions about services in the schools for all students as well as services for students in special education.

The results will help us refine our programs as well as provide topics for future professional development and training. Your participation is voluntary but is an important factor in allocating grant funds for students, staff, and parents. All responses are anonymous.

The survey will close on Friday, March 24th, 2023. We appreciate your feedback. It will help increase our awareness of how we can best serve our students!

Parent Input on 2023-2024 Class Placement

The planning process for the 2023 - 2024 school year has begun! This is a lengthy process, and one we take very seriously. There are many factors we consider as we develop our schedule and class lists. We work with your child’s current teachers as well as specialists (reading specialist, differentiation specialists, resource teachers, and art, music, and PE staff) to create class lists conducive to learning.  We take into account your child’s academic, social, and emotional needs. Our goal is also to create equitable classes in terms of size, instructional support, gender, etc.

As our partners, we welcome you to share your perspective on your child’s placement for the coming school year. Providing this information about your child is optional. If you choose to share your input, please utilize this form, as it is our official way to collect this important information from you.

IAR Schedule- Grades 3,4 & 5 Only

During the month of April, your child will participate in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Elm School will administer IAR April 3-April 21, 203. A schedule with specific dates can be found below. However, please note that make-up assessments will be taken throughout the entirety of the window.

The IAR is designed to measure students' current performance in relation to the Illinois Learning Standards for mathematics and English language arts. The standards set high expectations focused on critical thinking and real-world application of knowledge. The results from state-wide testing can be a helpful tool in measuring your student’s success in school, but are just one of the many ways readiness for the next grade is tracked.

This year, there are five subtests in total: two reading and three math. Results of the assessment are shared the following year with families.

Assessment Schedule:

4/4: 4th and 5th Grade ELA

4/6: 4th and 5th Grade ELA

4/10: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Math

4/11: 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Math

4/13: 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Math

4/17: 3rd Grade ELA

4/18: 3rd Grade ELA

To kick off our Assessment Window, we are asking all students to wear a jersey or sports shirt on Monday, April 3rd. We are encouraging our 3-5 grade students to Slam the Exam and give their best effort.
