Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to be involved with this year's biggest volunteering event, the Sutton Volunteer Showcase on Tuesday 18th April.

If you are unable to get involved on the 18th April, there are still lots of ways in which you can promote your organisation and volunteering opportunities in April and May, around "The Big Help Out".

Read on for:

How you can create "taster" volunteering opportunities in April/May (around the Coronation and "The Big Help Out")

A taster session is a great way to inspire potential volunteers to get involved. Whilst in the long run we know that new volunteers may need training and support, by setting up taster sessions you can give potential new recruits a sense of the exciting things they could do if they choose to volunteer for your organisation.

What your taster session will look like will depend on your organisation's volunteering offer. It could be as simple as chatting to a few new people over a coffee, or it could involve running an event, or inviting people to a session you are already running.

We strongly encourage you to add any taster sessions to Simply Connect such as this example from our friends at Ecolocal. The simple "How to" is to create a copy of your current volunteer advert and add the prefix THE BIG HELP OUT Taster: and an introductory line e.g. "as part of THE BIG HELP OUT, come and try volunteering on EcoLocal's community allotment on Monday and Friday mornings including a special on Bank Holiday Monday 8th May".

We will be promoting all taster sessions and "Big Help Out" events in our April and May Volunteering Opportunities newsletters.

How you can shine a light on your volunteers in our "Volunteering Hall of Fame"
