CalTeach Paid STEM Beyond Internships 

Are you looking for a fun and hands-on internship this summer? Are you passionate about STEM and education? The CalTeach STEM Beyond Summer Internship partners with leading Bay Area non-profit organizations, such as the Cal Academy of Sciences, Exploratorium, Lawrence Hall of Science, Oakland Zoo, Chabot Space and Science Center, and more!

Through these programs, interns work with K–12 students, their families, museum educators and/or teachers in summer activities that focus on math, science, and engineering. Examples of work involved include collaborating with mentors and fellow interns to plan and facilitate math or science activities, develop and implement curriculum, lead lessons, and much more.

This is a paid internship of up to $2800, with the possibility of being hired by our partners to continue work through the academic year.

Paid Summer Internships for CalTeach Students 

 

Dates: June 20 - August 11


For 8 weeks, you will work closely with a research team from a cutting edge UC Berkeley lab. With a focus on data science, you will be guided towards the completion of a research project while you collaborate with CalTeach faculty to develop new curricular units for your classroom!


Earn $6,300 for full-time research during the summer!

 

PLUS bonuses available for continued participation in professional development during the academic year, and for trying out your newly developed lessons while student teaching! Includes a budget for classroom materials.

Berkeley Lab CalTeach Intern - STEM Beyond Summer internship

The K-12 team at Berkeley Lab develops educational programs to teach and support the next generation of scientists. Our aim is to connect Berkeley Lab experts with students around the Bay Area to Excite them about the world of STEM, help them Explore STEM careers, and give them the experience to pursue STEM pathways. The Berkeley Lab K-12 team is looking for candidates who are interested in working with high school students, have a strong interest in STEM communication, and appreciate collaborating with team members.

Amgen Biotech Experience

 
The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE), at the Lawrence Hall of Science, is an innovative science education program that provides teacher professional development, curriculum materials, and research-grade equipment and supplies to secondary schools. The program features a hands-on molecular biology curriculum designed to introduce students to the excitement of scientific discovery. Each year, over 70,000 students and hundreds of science teachers participate in this program and have the opportunity to explore the methods scientists use to create biotechnology medicines. The reach of the program has been extraordinary, with nearly 1,000,000 students to date having experienced the fundamentals of biotechnology across multiple U.S. states, and internationally.
 
Successful candidates will:
 - Have an interest in STEM and education
 - Have a growth mindset and be willing to learn
 - Be willing to learn basic science and laboratory principles
- Be able to work with and be sensitive to a diverse population
- Be reliable, punctual, and a good communicator
- Be able to work in a noisy, chaotic environment
- Be able to commit to the dates and times of the position
- Be a CalTeach student (preferable but not required)

The application submission deadline is 5:00 pm on Monday, April 1st.
Note that this internship could be combined with other Lawrence Hall of Science Summer Internships on the CalTeach Website.

Scholarship Opportunity: Golden State Teacher Grant Program — up to $20,000!

 

The Golden State Teacher Grant Program (GSTG) awards up to $20,000 to students currently enrolled in a professional preparation program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and working towards earning their preliminary teaching or pupil personnel services credential.

Students must:

  • Complete their program and obtain their credential within 3 years from the first distribution of GSTG funds.

  • Commit to work at a priority school in California for 4 years within 8 years of completing their program.
