The Magic of Bunnies

These "Twin"gicians did not pull the rabbit out of a hat they pulled the bunnies out of the bag!

For the past few years, Bunnies For Hunnies, has donated stuffed animals for the children of Family Promise and this year is no different. Then 16 years old Newington twins Juliana and Eliana Vass, started Bunnies for Hunnies nearly 10 years ago with its only goal to donate stuffed bunnies to children who could use some cheering up. Bunnies for Hunnies share the donations from partners like Walmart, Stew Leonard' s, and individual donors with children in shelters or those who have long term hospital stays. While the mission remains the same, the magic that these young ladies have shared puts a sparkle in the eyes of many children.

This next magician has made a remarkable impact in lives of New Britain's youth. Lisette Velasquez is the Assistance Director of Trio Educational Talent Search. Trio is a government funded program that provides support to assist inner city youth with college readiness, college acceptance, and college completion. The New Britain chapter operates out of Central Connecticut State University. To take on such a feat, all faculty and staff must identify with and prioritize this mission. Ms. Lisette works diligently to arm students with social, emotional, and financial intelligence that will better prepare them to become stable adults. Wisdom to make right choices is the power she grants to each of the students she encounters. According to one of her students, "Ms. Lisette is passionate about teaching us how to be leaders."

Thank you Ms. Lisette for sprinkling our children with the magic of self-esteem, excellence, and leadership.

Five Churches Brewing is known for their artfully crafted beer and wood fired pizzas. The large windows surrounding the taproom offer beautiful views of downtown New Britain.
