Tayiha has already proved to us that she’s miles ahead of her peers. At just 17 years old she’s previously released music that’s grabbed the attention of us all and now returned with her new single “Pretty White Candles”. We wouldn’t be shocked to hear this in-front of a big crowd at an Aussie festival very soon as the talented teenager grasps a real Eves Karydas and slightly Amy Shark vibe on this new track.
The pop-r&b songstress is well known to write intuitive lyrics, tapping into their youthfulness and confidence. Her charisma shines through in her new single and Tayiha explains how the single’s influence came about “I was actually inspired by a track called intro 3 by NF. I really liked that concept, but wanted it to relate more to my own personal life and what I was going through with a guy at that time so I definitely leaned more into writing about the toxic side of love and how it can almost be like a tug of war between you and this person and this feeling. It’s about not being able to let go of something you know is bad for you.”
“Pretty White Candles” started off stripped back on the piano and then grew into this deep, dark music that’s definitely unexpected to hear from a teenager. Tayiha discusses the single further “The entire vibe of the song delves into a completely different style of music compared to previous work. I think it’s got such a distinctive sound and the concept is quite different. I wanted to try something new and being inspired for this piece by artists like Lana Del Rey and cigarettes after sex I think with ‘Pretty White Candles’ I did exactly that”. Tayiha recorded out of Analog Heart Records (Brisbane, QLD) with Stuart Stuart that also produced the new single.
There’s no doubt that it’s only up from here for Tayiha. At such a young age, she’s managed to already tick so much off the bucket list with her previous singles including “Not Feeling This” that was on rotation at MTV Hits in Australia and New Zealand, she was a finalist in the 2020 Qld Music Awards with “No Happy Ending” and featured in ‘It Girl’ October 2022 Magazine. Tayiha has a long road ahead of her and now we just sit back and enjoy all of their new music to come!
