Good morning friends! As the weather dictates, it's a bit quiet here today at Great Glen. If you want to get some skiing in, my advice would be to get here early before it warms up too much. The temps did drop overnight into freezing, and while we did get even the tiniest amount of snow, we did not groom.
We are not running SnowCoaches, and tubing is closed. No lessons today, nor fatbiking.
For fair weather fans, today may be a good day to reset and refill your cup. Perhaps a day of catching up on life, or doing a project you've been putting off because you've been having too much fun playing in the snow, or maybe picking up a book. I just went to an event sponsored by White Birch Books with local author and president of Mountain Rescue Service Michael Wejchert about his most recent work Hidden Mountains. If I were home, I'd likely pick that up and delve into the story of survival and rescue in Alaska.
You could also make some phone calls and put your team together for the best mountain bike race this side of the Mississippi. What is that you say? Nothing but the Moat Mountain 24 Hours of Great Glen. Coming to you this August 5-6. The theme is centered on the story of Alice and her fanciful adventures in Wonderland. We think it's apropos as this place Great Glen is quite like Wonderland with our whole cast of characters and dream-like trails. I'll let you decide who the Mad Hatter is.
Just placed my order for a breakfast burrito from the Notch Grille at the Glen House. They are serving up breakfast and dinner everyday and lunch everyday except for Wed / Thurs. And the barstools are back! Belly up. If you haven't been, it's a wonderful respite with the most gorgeous views.
This is becoming a long diatribe, so I'll stop there. I guess it's close to the end of the season. Oh wait, our shop is still open, and EVERYTHING is on sale for 25% off. No better time than the present.
And more snow in the forecast?! It truly is a Wonderland here.
Happy trails!
Lisa
