Worry and Faith

This last Sunday Pastor Steve talked us through Matthew 6:19-34. This section of the Sermon on the Mount talks a lot about not worrying. Verse 34 sums it up it saying:

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

In fact, the command not to worry or to fear is one of the most often commands written in Scripture. I've heard from many of you this week that last Sunday's message really hit home for you because you too struggle with worry and I'm with you in the same boat! Pastor Steve talked about how worry will likely never fully go away, but what does it mean to have faith in the worry?

I read this article from Relevant Magazine this week that talked about what we do with worry and I'd like to share some of their advice here:

1. Remind yourself who God is. Is God good? Is God all-powerful? Does God love you? Will God take care of you? If you believe the answer to these are yes then our reasons to worry drop significantly!

2. Surrender to God. We fear because we want to know, we want to be in control. God knows. God is in control. When we place our faith in Him. We can overcome our fears because we know He is good and He will take care of us. Lay your fears at His feet and leave them there.

3. Think about Jesus. Consider what He endured for you. He was not guilty of sin but He paid the price for all sin. He suffered. He died on a cross. He carried the burden of our transgressions. If Jesus endured all that for you, would He forsake you now?

4. Remember who you are. You belong to God. You are His. When you have confidence and security in your identity as a child of God you will find that worry has a hard time getting its hooks into you. Find your security in Jesus.

Together you and I can take these reminders of God's care for us and have faith even in our doubt and worry. Remember God's deep love and care towards you today and every day!
