From the President & CEO

My time at Young Americans is coming to an end. While my last day in-person will be March 31st, I will be consulting through June 30th. It has been an honor to lead this organization and work with an incredible team, board, donors, and community.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the years – we have created incredible impact on the youth we serve in Colorado and beyond.

It has been my pleasure to oversee the development of critical corporate, community and nonprofit partnerships, the expansion of Young AmeriTowne to remote areas of Colorado, Wyoming and Kansas, the acquisition and expansion of the entrepreneurial programs of YouthBiz, and the on-going modernization of the Bank's products and services to ensure each new generation of young customers walks away with a firm financial foundation as they approach adulthood.

I am proud of the legacy I have helped create and wish the organization all the best in the future.

As for my next adventure - I am first taking some time to relax and ponder what the next chapter might look like before jumping into something new.

Take care,

Rich Martinez
President and CEO

Youth Advisory Board:
Jacob Flannigan, Scout Lambiotte, and Andrew Kurtz

This month we highlight three outstanding students currently serving on the Youth Advisory Board: Jacob Flannigan, Scout Lambiotte, and Andrew Kurtz.

Jacob is an 8th grade honors student at The Manning School where he participates in choir, musical theater and advanced math. During the pandemic, Jacob started following business and financial news. When he had to miss two big school trips because of COVID, his mom opened a brokerage account with the money they had saved up. They manage the account together and hope to increase the value of their portfolio through strategic investments.

Scout is a sophomore at St. Mary’s Academy where her favorite subject is math and she participates on the debate team. She also worked hard to earn a spot on the JV Volleyball team as a freshman. When she was in 8th grade, Scout introduced composting to her school and hopes to do the same at her high school.

Andrew is a senior at Colorado Academy and winner of the 2021 Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars Business Competition in the 16-21 age category. He loves to listen to podcasts and audiobooks about business, news, and leadership. He also enjoys 3D printing and taught himself how to use 3D modeling software. As a business owner, Andrew spends 15-30 hours every week working on his card business (ADesignsDenver.com) and regularly participates in YouthBiz Marketplaces. He loves thinking strategically about business, finance, and economics and plans to go to business school after earning an engineering degree in college.

Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars:
Sponsorships Available

We are pleased to announce that COBANK will once again be the presenting sponsor for the 2023 Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars Business Competition.

Funding from sponsors like COBANK ensures that Colorado youth have access to hands-on learning experiences in entrepreneurship. YouthBiz programs are designed to create economic opportunity – especially for youth who face many barriers to success – by helping them understand entrepreneurship as a viable career path or an essential skill set that creates value for an employer.

We are seeking additional sponsors for our annual fundraising gala in October. If you or your organization are interested is supporting youth entrepreneurship, please contact Tobin Truslow or find more details here.
