Our Production Director’s public radio story starts like many of our own.

Scott Gregory first started listening to KWGS when he was a kid. “Every evening in the kitchen, while dinner was being made, whenever we were in the car going to school—we listened to KWGS.”

At the time, little Scott wasn’t too interested in the programs he heard throughout the day. But as he grew older, Scott found himself turning to public radio as he moved from Tulsa to New York.

There, his relationship with public radio changed.

“I became a constant NPR listener after 9/11,” Scott recounts. “It was a time when knowing what was going on in the world was top-of-mind.”

"[Amidst] anti-Muslim sentiment, fearmongering and misinformation, NPR was just such a voice of reason.”

“I remember being, like everyone else, freaked out right after 9/11 and hearing the then poet Laureate, Billy Collins read poems on Fresh Air to just kind of ground everyone,” Scott recounts, pausing as he remembers.

“It was then that I realized that I'm not just a public radio listener, I'm a believer. [I remember thinking,] this is my lifeline.”
I’m a public radio believer too!
This is the kind of public radio we love and hold dear. And this is the programming, reporting and storytelling worth supporting.

Support the station that you turn to in times of joy and sorrow. Give HERE to Public Radio Tulsa.
Many thanks,
