From the Principal’s Desk

By now, the Autumn break is starting to become a distant memory, but hopefully, everyone found some time to recharge. The holiday was rather busy for some: our 1st Hockey Team took part in the Fairmont Easter Tournament and secured third place overall; some learners were part of a podcast recording at Fine Music Radio; our entropic adventurers returned from the Orange River trip and a lot of behind-the-scenes work was done on Annie, The Musical.

I also want to remind parents about our ongoing fundraising initiative for the Solar project. Your contributions are vital to the success of this project, and do not forget that there is a good tax incentive available. Your support is greatly appreciated. If you have not already done so, please complete the pledge using the following link. Our thanks go to all of you who have already helped us raise R107 300 towards our R5 000 000 goal.

We are in the process of assigning the installation of our Solar System to the company that won the tender and we look forward to this dream becoming a reality.

We welcome Mr Byron Manfred Carr to the Music Department. We trust that you will soon feel at home and enjoy being a part of the Rustenburg family. We also welcome two new members to our Support Team, Mr Gordon Maweza as a cleaner and Mr Lupumlo Ntanganisela as the oversight to our grounds team. We are glad to have you both on the team and wish you all the best as you get involved in school life.

We look forward to hosting the U16 Champions Cup this coming weekend. This promises to be a weekend full of exciting netball and hockey matches. Please come along and support our teams and grab a bite to eat from one of the food vendors and a good coffee from our very own coffee cart. Thank you to all the staff, parents and learners who will be helping out during the tournament.

Winter Uniform Changeover

For now, pupils may wear either winter or summer uniform. No combinations of the two are allowed. From Monday 24 April, however, the WINTER UNIFORM will be compulsory for all pupils.

Parents are advised to check that uniforms still fit, winter skirts are the correct length (not shorter than 10 cm above the knee) and jerseys are not frayed.

Please bear in mind that stock or particular sizes may not be readily available closer to the changeover date so purchase any new items in good time.

A reminder that the blazer is part of the winter uniform and pupils are expected to arrive and leave wearing their blazers.

Sports Update 13 April 2023

We are looking forward to hosting the 2023 U16 Hockey and Netball Champions Cup Tournament this weekend. We have 16 Hockey Teams and 12 Netball Teams participating. Please show your support by coming to watch on either Friday, 14 April 2023 (13:00 to 19:00), Saturday 15 April (08:00-20:00) or Sunday 16 April 2023 (08:30-14:30).

Support the Breathe Ocean Conservation (An NPO aimed at promoting plastic-free oceans)

We are excited to host E2000 alumna Sarah Ferguson on Monday, 17 April 2023 at assembly. Sarah is a physiotherapist who runs a private practice in Durban North at a multi-disciplinary centre. She is also a motivational speaker, pilates instructor, retired National Swimmer and swimming coach. She is an advocate for the plight against plastic, and an ambassador for Plastic Oceans International. Sarah is passionate about the ocean and works tirelessly to safeguard it for future generations to enjoy and appreciate responsibly.

Learners are invited to join the motivational talk about how she achieved a world record, and her journey to learn the importance of changing our behaviours to make a difference in our environments.

Donations towards her organisation Breathe Ocean Conservation (An NPO that aims to eliminate throw-away plastic) can be done via Karri. 50% of the funds raised will go towards Sarah's One Ocean swim from Durban to Cape Town and 50% will go towards supporting the NPO's educational programs.
