This is National Volunteer Week! And it is with a heart full of gratitude that I write this letter to express our deepest appreciation for your hard work and commitment to Book Harvest and the babies, children, and families in our world. Your time and energy volunteering with Book Harvest has made a real difference in the lives of thousands of children in Durham and beyond – children who are nourished by abundant home libraries and treasured favorite books.
Without your heart and muscle, Book Harvest would not be where it is today. And it is in such an exciting place: in mere days, a child will harvest our two millionth book!
YOU have helped make that possible. From counting, sorting, and stickering books, to packaging boxes of books to go to schools, to running book drives, to stocking book hubs throughout the community: our volunteers’ contributions are invaluable.
Thank you for being a part of Book Harvest’s big dream of books for every child; support for every parent; and literacy for every community.
A personal note: for the last year, I served alongside many of you as an AmeriCorps member and worked with Book Harvest in conjunction with Duke's LiteracyCorps program. Monday was my first official day as the Book Processing and Volunteer Coordinator, and I am thrilled to continue to work with our volunteers!
