CCMR Spring Update
Happy Spring, CCMR, the season is almost here!
Grants are US!
2023 will be a busy year for CCMR. Writing, applying and briefing for grants is time-consuming, but well worth the effort as we have been awarded four grants to execute this year.
  • The first is an OHV grant for Big Bend motocross track maintenance and equipment. We are buying a tractor, water trailer, and dirt to help maintain the track.
  • Second is an OHV grant for trail maintenance. CCMR adopted trails, like the Rainbow Trail, Poplar Gulch, and others, need work that exceeds our normal workdays. We will use this grant to subcontract professional trail builders for that trail work.
  • CCMR has been awarded a Youth Corps grant to do repairs on the Silver Creek to Hwy 285 Rainbow Trail segment in July and August.
  • We also wrote and were awarded a Yamaha grant to repair the Green Timber Trail bridge this year.
2024 Grants - CCMR has been busy writing and briefing OHV grants for 2024 for a continuation of the Trail Maintenance and Big Bend grants. These grants are your OHV registration funds put to work.

Adopted Trail News
CCMR has now formally adopted the entire 57-mile RBT within the USFS Salida Ranger District. Prior to this, we adopted an 11.9-mile section on the eastern edge of the SRD at Oak Creek and the 10.4-mile section from the beginning of the Rainbow at Silver Creek to Hwy 285, Mears Junction. This new agreement connects those two - creating one continuous 57-mile section.
Adopted Trail Maintenance
This year we plan to schedule trail clearing efforts and provide trail status on our Facebook page (follow CCMR on Facebook).  We are predicting a bad downfall year due to snow and wind events this winter - particularly in the two burn scars.  We partner with our BLM/USFS land managers to help maintain and clear our adopted trails.

Penrose Commons
The BLM is in the beginning phases of a planning process for Penrose Commons – this process takes time. The BLM has reached out to local clubs and organizations to request help by encouraging all of us not to ride user-created trails in Penrose.  Doing so will only hamper and slow the process down more. As we work with the BLM through this process, please don’t vandalize or remove signs. Let’s do our part to succeed in making Penrose a great riding area for future generations. And remember, if you’re unsure whether the motorized singletrack you’re riding at Penrose Commons is user-created or a legal system trail - the answer is … at present, there is ZERO legal motorized singletrack at Penrose Common.
Workdays
CCMR workdays provide volunteers the opportunity to give back to the trails they love, meet new people, and have a great time doing it!

Our first workday will be Thursday, April 20 to perform our annual Big Bend cleanup. On June 3, we plan another USFS, Salida Mountain Trails, and CCMR joint workday for National Trails Day.  More details to come.

Club Meetings/Events
The City of Salida Recreation’s Touch-A-Truck event is May 20 at the Vandaveer Ranch. CCMR plans to have a booth and bikes on display.

We have another CCMR Moonlight Pizza Day scheduled for May 15. This is an outstanding program where Moonlight donates 10% of that day’s sales to a local non-profit.

Miscellaneous

  • CCMR purchased an enclosed trailer last year and recently had it wrapped with the club helmet logo. Look for it at our workdays and events.
  • Amazon canceled its Smile program. Thanks to those that supported CCMR through this program.
  • Chinaman Gulch has been renamed Yansing Gulch, the meaning is resiliency in Chinese.
  • Be aware that riding off-highway in Utah requires an OHV online certification.
