Easter Sunday

Dear friends of Christ Church

Early on the Sunday his disciples discovered the empty tomb. Jesus Christ has risen from the dead. This is the wonderful news proclaimed on Easter Day onwards. He will appear to his friends, talk with them, and eat with them. They know that Jesus has conquered death, and so the risen life is available to everyone who chooses to follow him.

This Sunday I complete my locum term at Christ Church and so I want to thank you all for your warm welcome and support over the last seven weeks. It has been good to travel through Lent together with you, and to bring you to Easter Sunday. I look forward to a time when I can be with you again.

With the risen life of Christ within you, go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Alleluia!

With every blessing

Fr. John

Collect Prayer for Easter Sunday

Lord of all life and power,
who through the mighty resurrection of your Son
overcame the old order of sin and death
to make all things new in him:
grant that we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory;
to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,
now and in all eternity. Amen.

This week's service will be led by Fr John Tomlinson.

Ukrainian Day Centre Anniversary Celebration

Dear Friends,

The Ukrainian Day Centre was started a year ago by three English-speaking churches in Lausanne. Volunteers from Our Lady of Faith, Christ Church and the Scots Kirk were helped greatly by a group of volunteers from the wider community. The help of several Ukrainian expatriates and several Ukrainians who had recently escaped the fighting in the Ukraine played a vital role in allowing the Centre to be launched quickly and effectively.

Since its launch, the Centre has registered over a thousand Ukrainians many of whom now visit regularly. Indeed, we have had over 3’000 visits, served at least 5,000 refreshments, distributed several tons of clothes, given several hundred language lessons and entertained hundreds of additional visitors at events including National Day celebrations and Christmas.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our local and Ukrainian volunteers and the support of our founding congregations and donors.

It is therefore with great thanks that the President and coordinating team of Le centre du Jour ukrainien request the pleasure of your congregation’s company at a celebration of the first anniversary of the Centre’s founding on Sunday 23 April at 12.15 at the Scots Kirk, Av de Rumine 26, 1005 Lausanne.

Christ Church Spring Sale

I did promise to give an update on the theme for the Spring sale and I am pleased to announce that the theme chosen is Renewal.  Springtime is one of the great renewals that we can see happening all around us but there are other renewals too, smaller but not less important, such as reconnecting with an out of touch friend or re reading a much loved book.  Renewal also means making something new, sometimes from unlikely objects to make them fresh and interesting.  To value the old by making something new.

I  hope you are finding your own renewal this Springtime and I look forward to seeing you at the Spring sale on Saturday 13th May from 10:30.  Stalls include brocante, books, cakes, jams and preserves, Spring wreaths and flowers, hot lunches, and a café.   Join us for a Spring Renewal.
