Happy April, SWE GGS Members!
April 7th is World Health Day, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization. What is something you are doing for your health this month? Maybe you would like to participate in a cornhole event (hint hint)? Applications for SWE-GGS Scholarship Program close today! There's a networking brunch at UCB. Towards the end of the month, we have a Women in Tech panel and mixer. Finally, there's a Women in Data Science event in May.
Below is a summary of what is going on with SWE GGS:
SWE-GGS Scholarship Program 2023
The SWE GGS Scholarship Program awards scholarships to a number of Bay Area students who plan to attend a 4-year university to pursue a degree in engineering or computer science.
To be eligible for a SWE GGS scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Current high school senior or community college student planning to pursue a degree in engineering or computer science from an accredited university
- Identifies as a woman or other underrepresented gender including non-binary and gender non-conforming
- Lives or attends school in the boundaries of the Golden Gate Section
Please see the scholarship page on our website for more information about what documents are needed in order to complete the application. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 7th, 2023. If you have any questions, please email sweggs.scholarship@gmail.com.
SWE-GGS x UC Berkeley SWE Networking Brunch
SWE GGS and UC Berkeley SWE will be hosting a networking brunch on Sunday, April 16th from 11 am - 12:30 pm. Brunch will be provided! The event will take place at the UC Berkeley campus on the Bechtel Terrace, above the Bechtel Engineering Center (take the concrete stairs up from the Bechtel Engineering Center).

Spring Cornhole Tournament
Bring your family and friends for a fun afternoon in the park raising money for the FY23 scholarship program! $30 per team of 2 or $15 for individual attendees who will be paired at random. Sign up here!

SWE Women in Tech Panel and Mixer
SWE GGS is hosting a Women in Tech panel and mixer on Wednesday, 26th April, 2023 in San Francisco. Hear from inspiring women in technology and engineering about their stories in the industry. They will share their experiences and recommendations on how to survive and thrive. This will also get be opportunity to network with peers and advocates.

Women in Data Science San Francisco at IBM
Our Communications Chair, Grishma Jena, is organizing a Women in Data Science (WiDS) event at IBM in San Francisco. It is a great chance to network, learn and listen from women doing great work in data science. Speakers are from IBM, OpenAI, Netflix, Amazon, Google, UC Berkeley, and more! Raffle prizes include 1:1 mentoring sessions with the speakers. You can attend in person (limited seats) or virtually. Free and open to all.
