I’m still standing strong after another tough session – fighting hateful attacks on librarians and our 1st amendment rights, on women, on trans kids, businesses, hospitals, the judiciary, and the whole LGBTQ community. The GOP is hell-bent on limiting our freedoms and controlling our lives from bedroom to boardroom. They brought back the firing squad and tried to pass a law (luckily killed in the House) that empowers armed, private militias while legalizing the brandishing of firearms.
It has never been more important for me to hold my seat!
I am proud to say that Democrats had great successes even in the face of hateful bills. Democrats defeated critical bills that would ban absentee voting, eliminate ballot initiatives, make the state board of education partisan, and we stopped ESA vouchers. We also were critical in passing good legislation such as Idaho Launch, a scholarship program for in-demand careers, loan repayment incentives for rural nurses, and protected college and university budgets.
I introduced Add the Words as a Personal Bill on behalf of all the Democrats, because GOP leadership would not give the bill a hearing once again, a bill we have been trying to pass for 15 years. In contrast, Republicans introduced over a dozen hateful bills to attack and deny rights and access to services to people who are LGBTQ. I am worried about our state and the hateful attacks on our community, but I will NEVER stop fighting against oppression, hate and extremism.
Your generous support of my campaign has allowed me to not only run my own campaign by hiring staff and interns, utilize web and social media platforms, and purchase campaign mailers, yards signs and other advertising, but I have also been able to support candidates running in vulnerable and flippable districts in an effort to elect more Democrats to the legislature. This is critical in our efforts to defeat terrible legislation and address the needs of the people of Idaho.
