Sunday, April 23, at 10 am:  Why We Have Chosen A Green Burial with Rebecca Gilbert and Ursala Goodenough
UUSMV members Rebecca Gilbert and Ursula Goodenough will explain why they have chosen Green Burial for themselves. Ursula, a professor of biology for many years at Washington University in St. Louis, is the author of the The Sacred Depths of Nature, recently revised and republished. Rebecca, proprietor of Native Earth Teaching Farm in Chilmark, spoke with Barbara Caseau about green burial during their last conversation, just before Barbara's death and subsequent Green Burial in February. Rebecca will include Barbara's thoughts along with her own. Betsy Young Buck has done extensive
research and will make available a list of resources on Green Burial , mostly online.

*There will be no children's program this week due to spring break.

Blessing of the Animals Information
During our April 30th Service we are planning a Blessing of the Animals. Here are 5 ways you and your animal(s) might choose to participate:
1.  If you have a well-behaved animal that can be trusted in the chapel space — specifically with other animals and people of all kinds — they are invited to come to church with you. If you have any concerns on that front, or if you’re simply not sure, please defer to option #3!
2.  Any children (or adults!) who treasure a stuffed animal should feel welcome to bring these beloved companions with them to the chapel to participate in the blessing.
3.  If you live with an animal that does not meet the “trusted in the chapel” description above, would not travel well, or would not fit in the building, please bring a photograph, either printed or on a device.
4.  If you are joining us via Zoom and would like to have your animal(s) receive a blessing, try to have them near you during that part of the service.
5.  If you would like to honor a beloved animal that has died, please send a photograph to Rev. Janet at revjanetnewton@gmail.com for inclusion in a slideshow memorial.

We’re looking forward to this service and to meeting and hearing about all the dear critters with which we share our lives and love.

Mission

We are an intentionally welcoming congregation of diverse faiths and shared values, fostering spiritual growth, community action, racial equity and universal justice.

Our Vision 2025
We envision a flourishing and caring congregation that . . .
  • Built a loving and supportive, multicultural community.
  • Created thriving shared ministries led by our minister, lay leaders, and the congregation working collaboratively.
  • Worked to accountably dismantle white supremacy, racism, and all intersecting oppressions in ourselves, our community, our institutions, and our democracy.
  • Determined the feasibility of a new building/addition that will enhance our ability to serve our congregation and the island community.
……. As we seek to widen our spiritual horizons.
