#TakeAction #1 Action: This Week’s WILA Hot Sheet!
Washington Indivisible Legislative Action (WILA), using the #TakeAction Network (TAN), makes it super-easy for you to have a voice in Olympia. Each action takes less than a minute and is time-critical, given Wednesday’s deadline. So, please, take a few minutes and act on as many of these WILA Calls to Action as possible.

April 12 is the final cutoff date – bills that haven’t passed out of both houses of the Legislature by that date will die.

Tell your Senators to reinstate retroactivity for HB 1324 (Eliminating consideration of juvenile offenses in adult sentencing.)
HB 1324 needs to be applied retroactively to address the racial disparities that have plagued our criminal legal system. Tell the Senate to pass the House version of HB 1324, including retroactivity.

· Support Improve clemency/pardons board review process (Senate: In Committee (Ways & Means))
Support this crucial racial equity legislation and help reunite families!

· Lobby Your Senator to Vote YES for Middle Housing! Floor vote soon on HB 1110
The Senate Rules Committee has pulled HB 1110 for a floor vote, which could happen any day now. Please call AND email your Senator to vote for this bill -- we need broad bipartisan support.

· Support HB 1169 (stop funding court programs on the backs of indigent defendants) and ensure this bill gets a floor vote in favor of passage.
When someone can't pay the legal, financial obligations (LFOs) resulting from a criminal conviction, they can be trapped in a cycle of debt and poverty that prevents them from moving on with their life. HB 1169 addresses this issue while ensuring victims are compensated for their harm.

· Tell your Representatives: Vote NO on 5536 unless it contains crucial changes!
This bill re-criminalizes substance possession and leaves substance use disorder treatment in the hands of prosecutors and the court instead of health providers where it belongs.

· Support Universal health care (House: On Rules Review List For 2nd Reading)
Please help support Universal health care (SJM 8006) by lobbying the state legislature. This SJM will enhance the ability of our Universal Health Care Commission to design and fund the universal healthcare system envisioned and mandated by our State Legislature under SB 5399 (2021).

· Pass 2SHB 1470 (would legally obligate private detention facilities to create a habitable environment for detained people.)
2SHB 1470 would legally obligate private detention facilities to create a habitable environment for detained people, including food, clothes, and hygiene standards, banning solitary confinement and access to free phone calls.

· Support Grassroots lobbying HB 1317 - Ask your Senator for a floor vote of YES
The public has a right to know who is sponsoring political advertisements.

· Support Clean Energy Transformation Act (HB 1416 Senate Rules For 2nd Reading)
The Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA) already applies to market customers of investor-owned utilities. This bill will extend CETA to nonresidential customers of consumer-owned utilities.

· Support Affordable housing funding (House: On Rules Review List For 2nd Reading)
This bill would allow counties and cities to mitigate some of the harm caused to their communities by short-term rentals by obtaining funds from the people who are most profiting.

· Support National infrastructure bank SJM 8001- Ask for a YES vote!
The bill would send a resolution urging the passage of a bill creating a national infrastructure bank to the President, the leaders of the House and the Senate, and each member of Congress.

· Ask for a floor vote YES for HB 1777 (deep decarbonization in built environment)
Please lobby these Senate leaders to pull HB 1777 for a floor vote and a vote YES. Nguyen is the Senate Majority Caucus Floor Leader, Mullet heads the Senate Capitol Budget Team, and Billig is Senate Majority Leader, so they hold much sway!

· Urge Your Legislators to Pass This Gun Safety Bill!
Pass Gun Safety Bill SB 5078 This Session!

#TakeAction #2 Action: Sign In “PRO” On SB 5768 By 11:30 A.M. TODAY!!
On Friday, a MAGA judge in Texas issued a stay that would effectively rescind the FDA’s long-standing approval of mifepristone. This abortion medication has been used safely for more than two decades. The ruling could end the ability of providers and pharmacists nationwide to purchase mifepristone from makers of that medication.

Anticipating that decision, Governor Inslee directed our state’s Department of Corrections, using its existing pharmacy license, to purchase enough mifepristone to provide a three-year supply for Washington residents. Well done, Governor!

However, the Governor’s timely action wasn’t enough - the Department of Corrections needs statutory authority to distribute mifepristone. To provide that authority, SB 5768 was introduced in the Legislature. The bill expressly authorizes the Department of Corrections to distribute or sell mifepristone to licensed health providers across the state, assuring that this medication remains available in Washington, notwithstanding the Texas judge’s order.

The Senate Ways & Means Committee will hold a public hearing on SB 5768 today at 12:30 p.m., which means that we only have until 11:30 a.m. this morning to register our position as “Pro” (you are not signing up to speak by doing that). It’s vital that as many of us as possible do that.
Here’s a link to the WILA Call to Action by which you can easily register your position as “Pro” on SB 5768 – please do it now!:
