Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

GILGAMESH - Mesut Arslan
1/05: Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (NL)
In Gilgamesh, director Mesut Arslan combines solid drama with the refreshing power of improvisational theatre. The result: a vivid overall experience that leaves behind gripping images. A story about the world, humanity and the 'primal epic' of Gilgamesh that dissolves the boundaries between actors, scenography and audience. Gilgamesh brings together lessons from ancient history, the drama of an epic and the freshness of improvisational theatre to create a stimulating overall experience. With Daphne Agten and Layla Önlen playing all the roles with their charisma and humour between and with the audience. Read more...

BEYOND THE BLACK BOX - C-Takt, Monty, wpZimmer, Platform 0090
11/05 - 14/05: Various locations in Antwerp... (BE)
Beyond the Black Box lands in Antwerp for a second time! The festival that breaks out of boxes and colors outside the lines of classical genres presents a new four-day program that will take place in different corners of the city. We bring together artistic practices that maneuver at the intersection of disciplines, exploring their boundaries and forging new connections. They break open existing conventions and seek hybrid forms.

This year we show work by Bart Lodewijks, Müge Yilmaz, Huseyin Umaysiz, Fleur Khani, Kevin Trappeniers, Sophie Guisset, Ira Brand, Carolina Mendonça & Catalina Insignares, Anna Schlooz & De Refuge, Hanafubuki, Viva Los DJ'S.

Beyond the Black Box invites makers and the audience to experiment with form, space and time. The festival challenges you to look differently. Be surprised by work in unexpected places or moments, forget your set of beliefs and come and experience with an open mind what art can also look like! Stay tuned for more announcements!

DAVUL Huseyin Umaysiz
20/03 - 18/04: KANS (SoAP-aterlier), Anderlecht (BE)
© Pedro Morato Gabao
In preparation of Beyond the Black Box (Antwerp), Huseyin Umaysiz and Christoph De Boeck join forces again to investigate further the universal frequencies that surround us.

Huseyin Umaysiz approaches the universe as a living organism in which every object, substance and living being has a vibrational frequency. Thus, each of us consciously or unconsciously engages physically with the world we live in. To make the universal frequencies visible, audible and tangible, Umaysiz chooses the davul - an organic percussion instrument from Turkey - as a performer.

'Davul' explores how vibrations alter the consciousness of our humanity through drum, voice, body and image in an attempt to understand our actions and communication as social beings. Amid an installation by Christoph De Boeck, communication is reinvented and Umaysiz engages in a discussion with the past. Read more...

So far, 2023 has been an exciting year for Platform 0090. Earlier this year, we were able to announce that 0090 is granted with a positive subsidy dossier. This means that for the coming five years, we'll be able to bring out even more projects from our current and future artists. But that's not all...

From January on, our team has been strengthened with the arrival of Patrick Sterckx as our business manager. With his past and current positions within the Antwerp Cultural scene, Sterckx offers the right experience to lift 0090 to the next level!

Last but not least, 0090 has waved its old home in Zuiderpershuis goodbye. Nowadays you'll find us in kultuurfaktorij Monty. Currently, we're working hard to transform the blank canvas and make it our very own.
QBX - Sad Birds Pavilion - Huseyin Umaysiz
Hauptsache Frei Festival in monsun.theater, Hamburg (DE)

"Every story has a starting sound. Ours sounds like that." With a first sound, the two Kurdish performers take us into a story of birds, migration, love and civil war. Their starting point is the novel of the same name by Bakhtyr Ali, set in southern Kurdistan. They build bridges between traditional Kurdish narrative techniques, following the beauty of this language, and sensual elements such as smell, sound and music. They dig into their body memory, play with light and shadow and ask themselves: What makes us us?
