Advocacy update: SUPRA advocates for students affected by changes to the CSCSE requirements

In January 2023, the Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) announced a new policy which required all students to return to on-campus learning for semester 1, unless there was specific documented reasons they were unable to return. This change affected thousands of students who had very little time to return to Australia and organise housing.

SUPRA was concerned about these changes, and many students contacted us for assistance. We actively collected thousands of student opinions and experiences.

The University resolved to provide a letter to affected students that can be used for their CSCSE applications, allowing them to continue with studying remotely. We met with the University multiple times and provided feedback on the contents of the letter, ensuring students' needs were centred. Find out more about our advocacy around this issue.

We sincerely thank all the students for sharing their experiences, it was central to our ability to advocate for postgrad students' needs.
