What interventions and programmes are available to support older nurses in the workplace?
"High exit rates, stalling entry rates, population ageing, and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic have placed significant strain on the world's nursing workforce. Both developed and developing countries face similar predicaments. Evidence-based programmes to support older nurses in the workplace are urgently needed to ensure the sustainability of a career in nursing for this group of healthcare professionals."

Research

Interventions on Well-being, Occupational Health, and Aging of Healthcare Workers: A Scoping Review of Systematic Reviews
"With recent higher awareness of the necessity of improving healthcare workers’ well-being, we aimed to overview systematic reviews dealing with interventions on well-being, occupational health, and aging of healthcare workers."
The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Management Strategies From the Nurse Managers’ Perspective
"Everyday nursing work inevitably involves conflict. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and conflict management strategies from the head nurses’ perspective."
Emotional intelligence and coping strategies among intensive care unit nurses.
"Stress is an integral part of daily work for nurses, especially those who work in intensive care units (ICUs). However, chronic stress can affect nurses' mental and physical well-being, increasing their risk of burnout and decreasing the quality of care. A higher emotional intelligence (EI) level may be correlated with greater use of effective coping strategies, leading to a reduction of the adverse effects of stress."
The relationship between nurses' perceived organisational, supervisor and coworker support, psychological well-being and job performance.
"The objective of this study was to examine the relationship involving nurses' perception of organisational, supervisor and co-worker support, psychological well-being and job performance."
Should Mindfulness for Health Care Workers Go Virtual? A Mindfulness-Based Intervention Using Virtual Reality and Heart Rate Variability in the Emergency Department
"Research on burnout in the medical community has extensively studied the impact of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), which can include meditation, outdoor retreats, in-person didactics, and/or online wellness modules. However, in addition to these MBIs lacking objective, physiological measures for wellness, there has been little to no research involving virtual reality (VR) as an MBI modality for healthcare professionals."
Discriminatory practices and poor job performance: A study of person-related hostility among nursing staff.
"This study highlights the organisational-level factors that become the reason for propagating hostile behaviours among female nurses. Freire's theory of oppression has been used as an underpinning theory for developing the conceptual framework. This study empirically verifies the conceptual framework of the study that gender discrimination and lack of administrative support are the antecedents of person-related hostility, which is the reason for poor job performance in the healthcare sector."
