Recap: UAC “Constructive Collective Bargaining Seminar”
held in Oak Brook on April 5
     
Nearly 50 signatory association officials, chapter executives and management industry leaders took part in an encore presentation of this full-day seminar by the Union Affiliated Contractors (UAC) of the National PHCC. The event was comprised of 4 informative educational sessions on contract negotiations geared to the employer-side of union construction and concluded with a panel discussion facilitated by PCA Executive Director and UAC Advisory Board member S.J. Peters. The day opened with welcoming remarks from National PHCC President Dave Frame (Bob Frame Plumbing Service/South Bend, IN) and UAC Chairman Brian Rich (GA Rich & Sons/Deer Creek, IL). Session presenters included attorneys John Nesse (The Law Firm of Mgt. Guidance/St. Paul, MN); Richard Samson (Ogletree-Deakins/Chicago); and Christina Wernick (Laner-Muchin/Chicago). Sponsors included Milwaukee Tool; Bradford White; and Screen Safe. The UAC originally held this seminar in late January in Bloomington IL for member contractors only. The encore event held last week was offered to other area contractors’ associations and was well attended. The PCA’s upcoming “At Work” print newsletter will contain full coverage of both the Bloomington and Oak Brook seminar presentations. PCA Board members in attendance included David Ariano (Ravinia Plumbing, Heating, Sewer & Electric); Moe Giglio (Calumet City Plumbing); and Tom Mascari (Mendel Plumbing & Heating). Our thanks to SMACNA Greater Chicago for making our meeting space available, the Illinois PHCC Chapter for their tremendous assistance, and to all the associations that promoted the event and sponsored attendees.

PCA Membership Meeting: May 10
 
The next membership meeting of the PCA of Greater Chicago is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Maggiano’s in Oak Brook. Click here for the registration form and here for event details.
A 1-hour optional pre-meeting seminar led by Screen Safe and ERS Co-Founder Bill Heffernan on Employees’ Mental Health and Suicide Prevention will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The PCA membership meeting starts with the opening reception at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner, and our program on “Succession Planning for Contractors.” Come network with your PCA industry peers.

CE Class Information
IPIA 2-Hour CE Class Offering: April 26
The Illinois Plumbing Inspectors Association (IPIA) also is making a CE class available to PCA contractors and their employees toward plumbing license renewal by the April 30 deadline on Wednesday, April 26 at the American Legion Hall at 15052 S. Archer Avenue in Lockport, IL The 2-hour CE class will focus on plumbing code and will comply with state-required credit criteria. Registration starts at 5:30 and class time is 6 p.m. Code books are required. There is a $20 fee since a light dinner is included. Those planning to attend must contact Jeff Curtis in advance at jc@ccp1967.com to ensure an accurate count.
PCA 2-Hour CE Class - “Trenching & Excavation Training”: April 29
Course # 750-021 C41 - IDPH Sponsor: 750-021
2 Credit Hours (1 CE credit for each 50 minutes of instruction)
Based on a request to present this topic due to OSHA’s current enhanced attention on it, the PCA has scheduled the 2-hour TRENCH & EXCAVATION TRAINING class for our contractor members and their employees on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Bishop Plumbing & Heating in Mt. Prospect, IL.
The class will be taught by Eric A. White, CHST, CRIS – Sr. Vice President of Vista Safety Consulting. All PCA contractors are welcome to attend and/or send their company employees
