Taking Care

On the next four Sundays, we will be having a worship and 9:30 AM cafeteria adult Bible study focus on what God’s Word says about how we are to take care of God’s creation, including all the blessings He has given to each of us. We bear God’s image and we reflect His glory when we rightly manage His creation.

Our goodness in management comes only after we receive what God has offered and graciously given us in the redeeming and sanctifying work of His Son Jesus the Christ.

In the church we have called this taking care of His creation “stewardship.” The Lord is a Lord of all life and stewardship covers a broad range treasure, talent, time, and opportunity topics in our family, our work, our public, and our church life.

This Sunday begins the first week of our stewardship emphasis “Stewards Living with Purpose”.  Our theme for this week is “Do All to the Glory of God.”  How devoted are we to giving God the glory that He deserves?  Because God is at work within us, we have His power to live our lives in devotion to Him, and, by God’s grace in Jesus, we are enabled to live lives that glorify the Lord.  We give God glory when we use our lives, gifts, and resources in service to others and to advance His kingdom.  May God keep our hearts devoted to Him and, through our devotion, may He be glorified.

If you have questions or comments about the study focus on stewardship please contact Greg Sinatra, Ward Irvin or Pastor.

SCHOOL SECURITY UPDATE

Our hearts were broken and are still aching over the school shooting in Nashville this week. We pray that God will comfort the grieving families in Covenant Christian School and Church. At times like this, we have questions regarding our own Faith Lutheran School security. We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously. You should know:
  • Our security procedures are reviewed and updated annually.
  • Students are not left without supervision.
  • Our staff participates in active shooter training.
  • Sewell Mill Library is our safe place if we must evacuate our school.
  • Exterior school and church doors are locked during the school day.
  • You must have a key or be buzzed in.
  • We have exterior and interior security cameras, including in the classrooms.
  • We are making plans to provide beverages and snacks for our local Cobb County police officers. We will invite the officers to drop in at Faith during their shifts.
  • Staff members carry their phones while on campus.
  • Staff members have a special crisis application on our phones for many types of emergency situations and emergency communication.
  • Our Comfort Dog Hope visits periodically to help our students feel safe.
  • Criminal background checks are required for employees and volunteers.
  • Most importantly, we pray for God's protection each school day.

Pastor Call Committee Update

We have received the call list from our District President that contains the pastor candidates for us to consider. This list consists of names the congregation nominated, and some that President Rockey included who fit the pastoral attributes we are looking for.  The next step in our process is for Rev. Jeff Jordan, our circuit visitor, to call each candidate to see if they are available for a call. As he receives those answers, he will pass that on to the committee and we will begin to review the information we have about the candidates who are available. We will then select pastors who fit the ministries and needs of our congregation and school and then begin the interviews.

This entire step will likely take some time to complete and is dependent on how soon Pastor Jordan is able to reach the pastors on the list and how soon we can complete the interviews. After the interviews are completed, a special voters meeting will be held. At that meeting the call committee will present to the congregation a short list and information about those pastors who are believed to be most qualified for our ministry. The final selection is up to the congregation to vote on and extend a call.

We realize Pastor Schneider will be retiring in just a few months, and are mindful of that, but at the same time, do not want to rush this process. We are relying on the Holy Spirit to guide the committee and our congregation as well as to guide the pastors being considered for a call. We trust in God's timing.

If you have any questions about this part of the call process, please contact me, Tim Lambert, or Vinny Caracci. Please continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to give us all discernment and wisdom during this time.

Blessings,

Karen Cerny

Ms. Brianna and Ms. Lori!

Ms. Brianna is currently a graduate student studying medical science.  She is from Dover, Delaware and has been working in childcare since she was 16.  She started off babysitting and being a junior camp counselor.  She has experience as a nanny, babysitter, camp counselor, mentor, and working in a pediatric dental office.  She has aspirations of becoming a pediatric dentist.  She likes reading, hiking, and going to museums.

Ms. Lori has been married for 22 years and resides in Woodstock, GA.  She is an empty nester.  She has two daughters ages 21 and 19.  She is a full-time nanny for a family in Milton.  She says, "I am very happy to be apart of the nursery at Faith Lutheran Church."
Please drop by the nursery and welcome them to our family!  They're there 9:15am - 12:15pm each Sunday, ready and happy to care for the youngest of our family, while their parents study and worship.
Mission of the Month - March, April & May
First Care Women’s Clinic

First Care Women’s Clinic is an evangelical Christian non-profit organization that was established to reduce abortion by giving the support and information that people need to choose life.

We will be collecting items for the Baby Boutique. There is a basket in the school lobby for donations as well as the church narthex.

The Baby Boutique supports women who have chosen life by providing practical assistance. Clients who attend our Parenting and Prenatal Classes are able to participate in a class baby-shower where they receive new items to help with the first months of motherhood. Through a variety of ongoing classes, mothers earn “points” and are able to use them to shop the boutique. All items provided are free.

Faith's Food Pantry

Brumby again served 275 to 300 families on April11th. We delivered 210 food bags and 210 toiletry bags on April 4th. These numbers include an extra 10 bags each specially geared to seniors and those went quickly. A big thank you to Jamie, Bob, Dennis, Gay, Graham, Barb, and Diana who helped us load and deliver.

The below are advertised grocery prices for Kroger, Publix, Aldi, Lidl, and Walmart. The sales ads run from
April 12th through April 18th.

The pantry needs
peanut butter, jellycorn bread mix (Jiffy, etc.), Tuna Helper,  pasta and pasta sauce,  canned meats,  canned chili and pasta,  cereal, 2nd breakfast items like breakfast bars and pop-tarts, and pudding cups as our shelves need to be restocked to make more bags. Toiletry items are always needed - bath wash, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant. We are hoping to make and deliver our next toiletry bags the end of July for back to school. Also, we are collecting re-useable grocery bags for our Senior bags so we can keep them separated from the other food bags. If you have any bags you are not using, please put them in the basket in the narthex or the blue bin under the mailboxes.
