Alumnus Michael Hasselberg to Deliver 2023 Graduation Ceremony Speech

Michael Hasselberg ’07N (MS), ’13N (PhD) has been named the 2023 speaker for the School of Nursing Graduation Ceremony on May 12. Hasselberg, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, is UR Medicine’s first chief digital health officer and an associate professor of psychiatry, clinical nursing, and data science at the University. He looks forward to highlighting UR Nursing’s history as a pioneering force in the profession, and reminding graduates that they, too, are positioned to be pioneers in health care.

Day of Giving 2023: Unlock $7,500 in Funding 

Tomorrow, April 19, the entire University of Rochester and Medical Center community will come together for our Day of Giving: 24 hours devoted to giving back and making a collective difference.

SON alumna Kathleen C. Plum ‘73N, ‘76N (MS), ‘93N (PhD) is committed to preparing the next generation of nurse leaders to take on careers in patient care and has generously put forth a Day of Giving challenge. When 75 donors make a gift of any size to the School of Nursing Annual Fund, Plum will contribute an additional $7,500 to help create a digital learning environment suited for the ever-changing healthcare field.

UR Nursing Researchers Awarded Pilot Grants

Two members of the School of Nursing community have received funding from UR’s Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) in support of upcoming research projects. Postdoctoral Research Associate Sukardi Suba, PhD, RN and fourth-year PhD student  Lindsay Batek, ND, RN, FNP-C  earned faculty and trainee awards from CTSI's Pilot Study Program, which helps University researchers lay the foundation for innovative projects that move new discoveries forward to patients and the community.

National Nurses Week

Conversation with the Dean


In honor of National Nurses Week, please join School of Nursing Dean Lisa Kitko, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, for a virtual conversation with School of Nursing alumna Eileen Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN '80N (MS), FAAN, dean of the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing, on May 9 at noon. They will discuss lessons learned from COVID-19, and how the pandemic impacted nursing policies and leadership decisions. Register today.

  • May 8: University of Rochester Medical Center nurses get one free medium coffee at Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters' Strong Memorial Hospital Locations or Café 601.
  • May 11: National Nurses Week keynote speaker Alex Dorr, MSc, CPS, presents How to Overcome “Why We Can’t” and Restore Peace, Happiness and Great Results. There will be sessions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Register now.
