Protect Clean Water with Our Grant Programs

CRWD's grant programs provide financial and technical assistance to help build projects that protect local lakes and the Mississippi River. Polluted runoff – stormwater that flows over hard surfaces such as sidewalks, streets and parking lots and into storm sewers – is a leading cause of water pollution in urban lakes and rivers. Much of the land in CRWD is already developed and privately owned, so working with residents, non-profits, schools, businesses, and faith-based groups to build clean water projects is essential for improving water quality.

  • Clean Water Project Grants help build projects that prevent stormwater pollution and promote water resource stewardship.
  • Clean Water Project Maintenance Grants support ongoing maintenance to ensure that CRWD grant projects continue to capture and filter stormwater runoff.
  • Native Landscape Grants help fund native landscaping in CRWD’s Focus Area. Through this program, CRWD hopes to expand the native plant communities to improve water quality and provide habitats for pollinators like butterflies and native bees.

Some of the many sustainable features of our building include

  • A 3,000-gallon cistern in our lobby collects rain water from the building’s roof
  • Rain gardens, boulevard tree trenches, pervious pavement, and underground infiltration combine to capture all the water runoff from our site
  • An automated system to manage interior glare and reduce lighting costs
  • Rooftop solar panels supply 25% of CRWD’s electricity needs
  • Carpeting made from recycled fishing nets
  • Wood paneling from Siberian Elm, an invasive tree harvested at nearby Willow Reserve in Saint Paul
