What's up this week with
Believers On Mountain Bikes (BOMB)

Weekly Update

Kicked off the official season last week at North Table, some discussion in the devotional below.   This week is Dakota Ridge and Matthews/Winters at 5:30.  Picture above is a family photo from the 1960's of the area looking over Dakota Ridge and Green mountain, interesting how it has developed since then.  Sections of the trail this week are expert rated.  About an 8 mile loop with ~1500ft of climbing and plenty of rocks.

Please donate to the hotdog fund by PayPal to bombfoodfund@gmail.com
You can also do cash/venmo, etc... at the ride.  Just find Dave with the hotdogs or our food fund manager Paul.

If you haven't been to a ride, we try to extend the opportunity to connect by having some food afterwards... just hot dogs and chips, but they are SO good after a hour or 2 on the trail!  $20 might cover you for the whole season, 100% of the funds for the costs of the hotdogs, buns, etc... If we have any left over at the end of the season, we use it for an end of season BBQ. Any little bit helps, thanks.

Devotional

I (Doug) was thinking about this imagery based on something our pastor said during our Easter service on Sunday. Super Bowl Sunday, NBA Finals, Final Four, Stanley Cup, The Masters, are all designed to declare a champion for the year. In sports there is only one champion, but each year we have hope our team will be crowned champion. This is way different than our one and true champion, one that our hope can be trusted and assured of victory. Jesus Christ sat down at the right hand of God as the champion over sin and death for all eternity.

One theme we’ve been talking about this year for Believers on Mountain Bikes is “togetherness.” Last week at North Table Mountain, we stopped at the top of the climb to do introductions and share how we got involved in BOMB and what it meant to us. The themes were (1) bikes and Jesus, enough said; (2) fellowship with other awesome people; (3) the care members of BOMB have shown others - the welcoming group and growth as both riders, and brothers and sisters in Christ. It shouldn’t be a surprise to any of us. Why? We have the ultimate champion that reigned yesterday, reigns today, and will reign tomorrow. We have a champion that doesn’t have to reset year over year. No, we have a champion that took on sin and death in our place and overcame it. Something none of us could do. As a result, those that believe in him have the hope of eternal life. That is something to cheer for as our victory is certain!

Consider Paul’s letter to the people of Corinth:
15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word, I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.
And consider Titus 2:14 - He gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good (Titus 2:14)
This leads me to my favorite verses in Hebrews 11 and 12. Since Jesus overcame sin and death to reconcile us back to God, and brought His kingdom to reign here, we celebrate and cheer TOGETHER. The author of Hebrews paints a picture of a marathon with a crowd cheering on the runners. The crowd are all the ancients that endured in their faith to the end. They are now cheering us on so that we may endure to the end.
Hebrews:
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Call to Action: Let’s cheer each other on, together, to endure in our faith to the end. Jesus is the reigning champion/King, today, tomorrow, and forever.
