Commander's Message

Mile Hi Veterans,

I want to thank all the MHV members who took time out of their busy schedule to spend time with us at the trial last week.  Whether you were there for a half-day, a full day, or all five days, your support helped make a difference.  The attorneys also really appreciated your support.  We will learn more this week about our success and what happens next.  Stay tuned.

I also want to extend a personal thank you to those members who made the trip to Colorado Springs to witness the award I received from the UVC. Together we make Mile Hi Veterans a great organization.

Thank you  🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Joe Davalos
MHV Commander

Veterans Division

Commander Joe Davalos
is presented a

Marvin Meyers Lifetime Achievement Award
presented at the
United Veterans Coalition of Colorado  (UVC)
Accolades & Remembrance Luncheon!
Dale and I attended this luncheon to support our Commander Joe Davalos in receiving the Marvin Meyers Lifetime Achievement Award.  Enclosed is an insert of what was written about him, "Joe Davalos, United States Navy Veteran, has been one of the mainstays of the Colorado Veteran Community. Joe is the Commander of the Mile Hi Veterans and has represented Hispanic Veterans. His wise counsel has greatly assisted the UVC in advocating for our fellow veterans at the State Legislature. Joe was also one of the key figures in obtaining the new VA Hospital."

We are so proud and honored to have you as our Commander.

Congratulations Joe!
Isabel and Dale Nuanez

Join us for a groundbreaking event that focuses on the health inequities faced by Latino Veterans and provides solutions for equity, inclusion, and access. The events will take place on ONLINE, April 17th, 18th, and 19th, 12PM - 1:15PM Mountain Standard Time and will be conducted in both English and Spanish.

This event is specifically designed for Latino Veterans and their families, as well as professionals in the healthcare and veteran support fields. Our aim is to raise awareness about the unique challenges that Latino Veterans face in accessing quality healthcare, and to discuss solutions that promote equity and inclusivity.

Over the course of three days, attendees will engage in thought-provoking discussions, interactive workshops, and panel discussions led by renowned VA experts.. Topics will include addressing disparities in healthcare outcomes, promoting cultural competency in healthcare settings, and advocating for policy changes to improve access to healthcare for Latino Veterans.

In addition, there will also be opportunities for networking, resource sharing, and community building. Participants will have the chance to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for advocating for Latino Veterans' health and well-being.

Whether you are a healthcare professional, a Veteran, a family member, or an advocate, this event will provide valuable insights, practical strategies, and empowering solutions to promote equity, inclusion, and access for Latino Veterans in the healthcare system.

King Soopers Community Rewards Program

We found an EASY way to raise funds for our MHV Services!

AT NO COST TO YOU, OUR MEMBERS!

The Kroger Family of Companies states it is committed to community engagement, positive social impact and charitable giving at the national and local levels. Every community is unique, but Kroger's common goal is to partner with the neighborhoods they serve and help people live healthier lives.

One of the ways in which they do this is through their King Soopers Community Rewards program. This program makes fundraising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping their customers do every day.

Once you link your Rewards Card to "Mile Hi Veteran's Services" all you have to do is shop at King Soopers and swipe your Shopper’s Card or key in you Rewards Number. Here’s how it works:

1. Create a digital account.

A digital account is needed to participate in King Soopers Community Rewards program. If you already have a digital account, simply link your Shopper’s Card to your account so that all transactions apply toward the organization you choose.

2. Link your Card to an organization.

Selecting the organization that you wish to support is as simple as updating the King Soopers Community Rewards selection on your digital account.

1. Sign into your digital account.

2. Search for your organization here.

3. Enter the name "Mile Hi Veteran's Services", or NPO number SC501 of the organization you wish to support.

4. Select the appropriate organization from the list and click “Save”.

Your selected organization will also display in the King Soopers Community Rewards section of your account. If you need to review or revisit your organization, you can always do so under your Account details.

3. Your organization earns.

Any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to the program, at no added cost to you. King Soopers donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating King Soopers Community Rewards organizations.

If you have any questions, please contact Linda Romero at 303-204-5448.  Also please text when you sign up.  Thanks! :)

A Love Letter to the Northside

Greetings North Denver Community~

I write to express my gratitude, joy and delight have connected with many of you over the past ten months as History Colorado, Denver Arts Collaborative supported by Denver Arts and Venues has co-created a beautiful Northside Memory Project. Together, we shared collective memories, shared and preserved photos and listened to dozens of oral histories. This work led to a brief documentary you will find below entitled, "A Love Letter to the Northside".

Please note we will continue to be in relationship with North Denverites to collect, preserve and share the rich history of North Denver.

All materials that were donated to the collection will be available online in the coming months.

Grazie and deep Gracias!
And big thanks to my co-conspirator in this project, Flo Hernández-Ramos

Warmly,
Marissa
