May Greetings From Your Agoura Hills City Councilmember

May Days!

May is beautiful in Agoura Hills. The weather is (usually) mild and summer is right around the corner. May is also National Bike Month ... a great way to get out of your car!

This weekend we will hold our annual Community Service Days when neighbors will be giving back to our community. We garden, paint, pick up litter and beautify our very own town. It's only a few hours and it feels great! More information below.

May also marks the month when the City launches a new, affordable ride-share app. Read on to learn more about AH-GO. In this edition, you'll also read about the debut of a public tracker for building projects around the City.

Public Safety is on everyone's mind these days; thanks to those who attended the Sheriff's Safety Symposium last month. The Sheriffs, as well as the Fire Department, are both hosting Public Safety Days at their respective stations. See below.

Lastly, the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing at Liberty Canyon continues with some exciting progress (see photo above). To receive weekly construction updates with anticipated closures or detours, email

City's New AH-GO Rideshare Program Begins 5/4

AH-GO makes traveling around Agoura Hills and neighboring cities easy, safe and affordable.

The City of Agoura Hills’ new AH-GO rideshare program rolls out May 4. This new program is an expansion of the City’s popular Dial-A-Ride service, allowing residents and visitors enhanced travel options Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 11 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and holidays TBD.

“We are thrilled to bring this innovative program to our City,” said City Manager Nathan Hamburger. “AH-GO ensures traveling to the businesses and places that make our community unique easy, safe and affordable for residents and visitors.”

AH-GO includes transportation between any two points within the City limits of Agoura Hills and the Malibu Lake area. Additionally, the service includes trips to select areas in Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Calabasas.

The program's cost is subsidized by funds from Proposition A, a half-percent sales tax for local transit improvements in Los Angeles County, allocated directly to the City. That means Agoura Hills, Malibu Lake and unincorporated areas are $1.50/per one-way/per rider and $3.00/per one-way/per rider for out-of-city already approved destinations.

The AH-GO app is available Apple App Store and Google Play.

Stay Up-to-Date on Building Projects

The State Legislature has made it easier and easier for projects to bypass local Planning Commissions and City Councils in an effort to spur building across California. While we always advocate for local control of projects, by law, some projects that meet certain conditions can be approved "ministerially," or without a public hearing.

Our Planning Department has created a web page for you to keep track of projects throughout the City. To see what's planned in your neighborhood or across the town, visit https://www.agourahillscity.org/department/planning-and-community-development/current-projects. The site is updated quarterly.

QUICK UPDATES

  • We thank outgoing Planning Commissioner Murtaza Mogri for his years of service to our City. The Mogri family is moving out of Agoura Hills so Murtaza had to step down from the Planning Commission. Applications were open in April and the Council will appoint a replacement this month.

  • The Good Life Podcast just keeps getting better! Join our host and Assistant City Manager Ramiro Adeva this month as he interviews our Congressional Representative Julia Brownley. Assemblymember Jaqui Irwin follows, and next month you can hear from Sheriff Luna! Stream this podcast here and revisit any past episodes at agourahillspodcast.com.

  • Our Flock Cameras are working! I wrote about these cameras that were installed on the entry/exit roads of our town in my January newsletter. After a recent bank robbery as well as a "smash and grab" at the AT&T store in Agoura Hills, the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station was able to use footage from the cameras to identify the getaway vehicles. Arrests were made in both cases thanks to the cameras.

  • NEW stop signs have been installed by CalTrans at the Liberty Canyon off-ramps. Please use extreme care as you enter and exit the freeway from this street, and drive with patience while everyone gets used to the new intersection. From the City of Agoura Hills: "These improvements have been installed to restrict movement from SB 101 across Liberty Canyon and is expected to reduce or eliminate 'freeway hopping.'" If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact our Public Works Director at jforte@agourahillscity.org.

  • It was very upsetting to read The Acorn's editorial last week about transgender athletes and Title IX. To read my response, click here. While the views expressed are my own, I believe it's important for community leaders to speak up so that our local paper knows this type of language is not accepted here.

Next Month

Summer Concerts and Movies in the Park RETURN! For me, summer is the most wonderful time of the year, and Agoura Hills' Concerts in the Park are a big part of what I love about the season. Next month, I'll share the full schedule. Meanwhile, if you are interested in being a sponsor of this great series, click here.
