Planning for Discoveree 2024 Starts Next Month...

The Discoveree Committee has a dedicated team of volunteers but we are always looking for new members.  The details...
  • We meet monthly via Zoom on the second Tuesday of the month from May until the event.
  • There are jobs big and small including just being part of the committee until you find the job that's right for you.
  • Depending on your role, you are still able to be a workshop leader or attend workshops at the event.
Here are some positions we are currently seeking volunteers for:
  • Committee Secretary - Take notes at each monthly meeting.
  • Participant Liaison - Be the point person for communications with participants prior to the event and be available to answer questions at the event.
  • Check In Coordinator - Handle distribution of name tags (check in) for participants as they arrive at the event.
  • Site Coordinator - Chabot College is a great site to work with and most coordination occurs via email prior to the event. Also handle issues on-site at the event.
  • EXPO Coordinator - Be the point person for groups interested in hosting a table at the Discoveree EXPO and convey site logistics to them.
  • We also have a number of positions that could use a 'backup' in case the primary person is unable to attend (Discoveree Assistant Coordinator, Lunch Coordinator, Opening Ceremony Coordinator, and others).

Leader Feature: GSUSA National Convention

Every three years, GSUSA holds a National Convention which is a combination of the National Council Session (NCS) where governance issues of the movement are addressed and a celebratory gathering of Girl Scouts from across the country (this year called Phenom).

National Council Session
This year at the NCS  there are seven proposals that the NCS will be voting on.  Our council is sending 16 delegates to the NCS and they are seeking input from girls, parents, donors and volunteers in our Council on these issues.
  • Allowing the possibility of virtual attendance for National Council Sessions and for Special Sessions of the National Council
  • Constitutional Amendment on the Timing of Delegate Allotment
  • Constitutional Amendment Formula for Delegates
  • Council Representation on the National Board
  • Amend the Girl Scout Promise and Law to use more potent, actionable language
  • DEIRJ Language Proposal
  • Girl Scouts Gold Award Scholarship Fund
If you would like more details about these proposals, please visit this page.
If you would like to provide feedback on these issues please click here.

On NCS being held in Florida
In addition, our council's delegates are concerned that NCS is in Florida, a state that is in conflict with our council's stated goals of diversity and inclusivity.  The national delegates are in the process of determining what, if any, actions should be taken in regards to these concerns.  If you would like to learn more about this on-going discussion and provide feedback, please visit this page.

Phenom by Girl Scouts
Immediately following the National Council Session is Phenom by Girl Scouts.  From the GSUSA website:

"This can’t-miss experience will have something for everyone, including awesome celebrations of Girl Scout achievements during the National Bridging Ceremony and Gold Award Girl Scout Celebration. Girl Scouts of all ages can explore unique hands-on activities and contribute to a collaborative art project available in the Hall of Experiences and Fun Zone. Girls can discuss ideas they’re passionate about and inform the future of Girl Scouts in the Mentoring Zone and Oasis. Throughout the day, they can take a break and recharge their bodies and minds in the Zen Lounge. Adults will also have a space to make connections and participate in workshops in the Retreat. View the agenda and learn more about the programming and experiences that we’re putting together for you!"  Click here to learn more.

Workshop Feature: What workshops should we offer?

Is there a workshop you wanted to attend at Discoveree but it was not offered?  We want to provide the best experience for Girl Scout volunteers.  Help us learn what we're missing...
