Industry Updates
  • SWANA Strategic Plan Town Hall - Goal 1: This event is currently postponed. A new date will be announced shortly.

Advocacy
  • Proposed PFAS National Primary Drinking Water Regulation: EPA is requesting public comment on the proposed regulation. The public comment period will open following the proposed rule publishing in the Federal Register. Public comments can be provided at that time at www.regulations.gov under Docket ID: EPA-HQ-OW-2022-0114. Information on submitting comments to EPA dockets can be found here.  EPA anticipates finalizing the regulation by the end of 2023.
  • Pursuant to s. 227.13, Wis. Stats., the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has convened a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to serve in an advisory capacity on rule-making for Board Order WA-11-22, which is related to Scope Statement SS 088-22. This permanent rule is related to revisions to chs. NR 500 to 524 related to landfills, solid waste management fees, financial responsibility and reporting requirements.  This TAC will meet several times, starting in April.  Please reach out to the following SWANA members, who are on the TAC, with any recommendations you have for NR 500 – NR 524 rulemaking changes; Mark Torresani, Gregory Parins, Doug Genthe, and John Welch.

Funding Opportunities
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the availability of up to $9.5 million for Compost and Food Waste Reduction (CFWR) pilot projects for fiscal year 2023. The cooperative agreements support projects that develop and test strategies for planning and implementing municipal compost plans and food waste reduction plans. Applicants must submit their proposals via Grants.gov by June 15, 2023.  Funding is available to municipal governments, school districts, Native American tribes and organizations, and special district governments
